Kids repeating each other's words
Asking for a friend:
My friend has an almost 8 y/o and watches an almost 4 y/o. The 4 y/o often repeats what the 8 y/o says. Nothing she has done has deterred this, and it drives the older boy batty. Ideas? I had this suggestion: Have you tried playful parenting? "If you keep doing that, the repeating word monster will have to come eat up all your words!" And then when he does it, make a hand motion for eating accompanied By some sound.

Re: Kids repeating each other's words
Does 4 yr old do it in teasing way or just what 4 yr olds do way.Im thinking I would have her let 8 yr old know that it is what 4 yr olds do and how they learn and since he is the big guy he is helping 4 yr old to learn things. If he is an only he may not be used to luttls and their ways

Re: Kids repeating each other's words
I have an 8 y/o dd and 4y/o ds and repeating words is a common occurrence. DD has learned not to let it bother her and makes it into a game.

Re: Kids repeating each other's words
I taught my oldest dd to win at the repeat game by saying things that were funny if the younger one repeated them. like "8 year olds are the greatest" or "come tickle me" might not always work but it worked for us, bith kids ended up laughing and moving on.
