So what exactly are you doing? You can PM me if you'd like. I'm obsessed with houses these days.

Re: Cool things you have done to/for your home
When we're finished we'll have 3 bedrooms, a full bath and a sitting room in the upstairs.
The dormer in the back goes all the way across.

Re: Cool things you have done to/for your home
Wow, Roomama! I expected to scroll down and see you had added a little front porch or something.

Re: Cool things you have done to/for your home
Ironically, we did just add a little front porch last spring. We're going to have to rebuild it because eventually the front door is going to move more toward the center.

Re: Cool things you have done to/for your home
Wowzers! That some serious construction work! Totally something I fantasize about doing with our ranch home. We need more bedroom space.
Did a contractor come in and do most of it or is your dh skilled?

Re: Cool things you have done to/for your home
We hired out the framing and all the outside work, with my husband being the GC. Demo was done by my husband and a crew of friends. Inside, we hired out the HVAC and plumbing and some electric. Most everything else will be done by my husband.
Oh, also, we had an architect draw up the plans.

Re: Cool things you have done to/for your home
RooMama, that's similar to what my dh did.. it was soooo hard because we had two toddlers. I still have Vivid memories of running around placing buckets to catch water during a rain storm when the framing was in and no roof.
But we did in phases because our roof was two heights Phase one, we tore off the very small dormer in the front 2/3 of the house and replaced it with two bedrooms and a bath. Then many years later, we tore off the vaulted cathedral ceilings and built two more bedrooms. My dh did everything but electrical as it requires a permit. He's also built a front porch and replaced all the windows and many other tiny projects. When I opened this thread, I didn't even know where to start. We've lived here for 16 years in July and We still have so much to do. It gets done slowly. One of my favorite spots is my kitchen. I particularly love my wood ceiling and the heirloom table my dh and ds refinished. This years projects: Replace front door Pull carpet from family room and den (last two rooms w carpet) and replace w wood or laminate At some point we need to update our kitchen cabinets and gut our downstairs bathroom.. we also need to pain our entire downstairs and our master bedroom. I believe the kids and I will do a lot of that this summer My dh draws up plans himself and we all get involved in tweaking or adding features. I'd really like a whirlpool bath in our downstairs bathroom. It's been nice to invest in our home but I think dh is tired of having the never ending fixer upper and frankly we never have energy for the "little touches"
