Re: D. R. P. T. ! (dietary revamp processing thread ;) )
I went to Trader Joes and Whole Foods today to so I could find out what foods I would be buying from there. Trader Joes has grass-fed beef . I asked a worker there what is the difference between vegetarian and grass-fed beef. He said vegetarian means they were fed corn, so I'll be staying away from that. I'm not sure what I should look for with chicken or turkey. I'm also a little confused about eggs. Should I do organic, cage-free, vegetarian? What do chickens actually eat?
---------- Post added at 08:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:33 PM ---------- While we were eating dinner DH said we should buy chickens. He probably shouldn't have said that ---------- Post added at 08:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:35 PM ---------- We totally have enough space for chickens

Chickens are omnivores, ideally they are pastured and eat fresh greens as well as bugs. Some hfs carry eggs from pastured hens, generally you want something from a small, local farmer. The yolks should be orange, not pale yellow (except in maybe in winter). Organic eggs, unless they're local, are usually nothing more than a better version of factory farm eggs. Cage free still means they never get outside.
The organic, Amish eggs at Target are ok in a pinch, the yolks are orange. But I prefer to buy from a local farmer where I know the hens go outside every day that weather permits. Soy free eggs are very expensive and hard to find, ime, but soy free pastured eggs/chickens are the absolute best. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk 2 |

Yes, I believe so, Melinda.
Ok, can we brainstorm some "on the go" kinds of meals? Today was miserable because we overslept, then we were out and about from about 9:30 - 3. it was a very, very bad food day.

It does stink.
I read the article a little better, and I guess it's *not* muscle testing. sorry! I have a bad habit of skimming.

Simon and my dh see Dr. Hicks at www.elementalsliving.com and he uses muscle testing (two person method) to determine what supplements a person needs and the dosage. When we have decided to do labwork, it has confirmed what was shown via muscle testing every single time. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk 2 |

This is the muscle testing I've used for years. Extremely accurate IME (Spoilered for size)

Re: D. R. P. T. ! (dietary revamp processing thread ;) )
I've only used it to test supplements. They advised me the first question should be Do I need this? or Is this good for me? From there I ask Do I need x amount a day? Etc. My supplement place said it doesn't work right if you're not facing north. In the store they have a set of laminated footprints facing north attached to the floor for us to stand on

Re: D. R. P. T. ! (dietary revamp processing thread ;) )
Okay, I'm here. We have made a lot of dietary changes over a period of time but we are going gluten-free at least for my son. The rest of us will be eating that way too but I may make an occasional exception if one of us is out without him because it doesn't seem to affect the rest of us at least noticeably in the short term. I'm also trying to limit sugar to once every six weeks or so and even then I'll probably use succanat. We'll still use maple syrup and honey occasionally. We'll be limiting grains but will have rice or oats occasionally. Quinoa and buckwheat can help fill some of the grain space in our diet.
We already eat almost all of our food completely from scratch so it's not as big a change as it could be but it's still a big one. I've been through a lot of diet changes over the years but wheat has been a constant. I don't know how to cook on a budget without using a lot of grains. Oh, and we're avoiding soy too. Oh, and since we buy our meat from local, cage-free sources, that is more expensive. Last edited by Damselfly; 05-16-2012 at 09:21 AM. |

As we've decreased the amounts of grains, the budget has definitely taken a hit

Re: D. R. P. T. ! (dietary revamp processing thread ;) )
We started decreasing wheat several weeks ago and I can already tell a difference in the amount we are spending on groceries. I used to buy organic wheat berries in bulk and use that as our staple.
