the sweet/sour level can be tweaked by either the temp or time...maybe if you reduce the heating time a little or something...my brain is fuzzy, but I know there's directions somewhere about tweaking the sweetness if you're a perfetionist or have finicky kids (mine won't eat it at all.... ...hoping to have luck if I make it very mild...)

Or frozen blueberries.

This is a really good website...I want to try it with the crockpot since I don't have a gas stove with a pilot light. Apparently thought the pilot light makes it the right temp. My friend does it all the time with a cheep yogurt maker she got and loves it.

It didn't work for me. But then I realized that the yogurt was already falling apart because it was 4 days past the expiration date . I did measure the temp and it was 190. Woah! That's a lot higher than 90 to 120! :headbang These new crockpots! Argh! I can't even select warm on my crock pot. Am I just toast for this method?

ironically, i went searching for this thread today wanting to double check the times, then got impatient and just googled yogurt crockpot, and here it pops up in my replies box, like, an hour later!

I just saw this - I do this all the time now. Ds finds my homemade yogurt too thin, however (but less sour than the Stoneyfield Farm we started with), so I strain about half of it and mix the strained with the regular to make the right consistency. He also likes vanilla in it. We use raw honey for sweetening.

I have 2 crockpots, and my smaller one is like that - too darn hot. You could put your too-hot one on the low setting and stick a dowel or wooden spoon under the lid to keep it from getting too hot. My bigger crockpot, ironically, doesn't get hot enough so I have to put a towel over it to make it hotter. The bigger one is the one I use for yogurt.

I hope this works for you! It saves so much money!
