Re: Need a GOOD sugar cookie recipe!
I made them for Christmas one year. I wonder where I got the recipe. I'll try to find it

Re: Need a GOOD sugar cookie recipe!
I made these this year and they turned out wonderfully. Normally I don't like making sugar cookies b/c they don't roll out nice and taste icky without lots of frosting. But these tasted good even without the frosting and they really did roll out and handle nicely. I did refrigerate over-night.
1 1/2 cups butter, softened 1 1/2 cups sugar 2 eggs 1 Tablespoon vanilla extract 4 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon cream of tartar 1 teaspoon salt *In a a large mixing bowl, cream butter and and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in vanilla. Combine dry ingredients and gradually add to the creamed mixture, mixing well. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes or util easy to handle. *On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut out with cookie cutters dipped in flour and place cookies 2 inches apart on a greased cookie sheet. *Bake at 350* for 8-10 mintues or until edges are lightly browned. Cool for 1 minute on the pan before removing to wire racks to cool completely. Decorate as desired. Makes about 7 dozen when using 2 1/2 inch cookie cutters.

I made these this year and was absolutely thrilled with them. I don't like cakey sugar cookies either and these were perfect. They also hold their shape very nicely when baked. I did chill the dough longer than suggested. I'd also suggest tweaking the flavoring a little bit because unfrosted they are a little dull, maybe a little more vanilla or something. If you are going to frost them though they should be just fine. |

i don't think this is exactly what you are looking for, but these, oatmeal chocolate chip, or breakfast cookies are 95% of what i cook. the kids love to help with these and i've used sprinkles, colored sugar, and other cookie decorating items to roll them in with satisfactory results every time!

I use the above recipe---nothing but raves. They don't require chilling, either. |
