good, kid friendly drinks?
It's another no-nap day here, and I'm really wishing I had something good to drink (non-alcoholic). I need some good ideas, preferably kid friendly because ds will probably want some too. We used to get lemonade with no HCFS, but ds wanted it whenever it was in the house, so we quit buying it. We make green smoothies every morning for breakfast so that is nothing special. I do like smoothies, so maybe a non-green smoothie recipe you love? I'm looking for something without a ton of sugar....
I don't like coffee or tea, so those kind of drinks are out. Any good ideas?

Re: good, kid friendly drinks?
I drink coconut water when I go on long bike rides. I usually water it own a little bit as well. About 1/4 watered down. Closer to 1/2 by the time the ice melts.
My kids don't like it but I would be ok with them drinking it.

Re: good, kid friendly drinks?
Do you want to make something or buy something? G picked out the flavored coconut water as his special treat for the last soccer season. And they were really yummy! On sale for the beginning of the school year, but normally kind of pricey.
But mostly if we need something special I make homemade, lazy lemonade with honey. No simply syrup or anything, just enough room temp water to dissolve the honey, add lemon juice and cold water/ice to taste. Oh, sometimes I use sparkling mineral water and they think it's awesome!

Re: good, kid friendly drinks?
We drink frozen fruit smoothies regularly and the kids LOVE them and think they are the best treat ever.
Just throw any frozen fruit you have in the blender, add some plain yogurt, milk and blend. Super delicious, 100% natural, no sugar added milkshake. I usually also add some nutritional items to the kids smoothies because I love sneaking excellence in to their bodies. Chia seeds, flaxseed, kelp powder, ground oatmeal, ground nuts, etc. Not necessarily all at the same time and if you're just going for yummy taste and not necessarily nutrition boosting, the fruit alone makes that.

Re: good, kid friendly drinks?
Peanut butter banana smoothies are a favorite around here. PB, banana, some kind of milk, optional cocoa powder. Yum!!
A splash of lemon or lime juice in water is very good and not too sweet- just a little something to make you feel like you had something yummy.

Re: good, kid friendly drinks?
Tell me more about slushy strawberry lemonade. That sounds up my alley! I don't have a vitamix though. Just a regular blender, but it does ice fine and frozen fruit.
The pb/banana smoothie sounds good. I have a recipe for one with pb, banana, milk, ice, chocolate syrup (I make it with cocoa powder and maple syrup), and oatmeal. It's pretty good, but not amazing. I need to do some tweaking. Regular smoothies are good. We just have one every morning, so it's nothing special. But if I don't put the spinach in it makes it sweeter. My daily ones are fruit, water, and spinach. So maybe more fruit and yogurt? Funny you all mentioned coconut water. I had gotten some a few days ago and opened it today thinking it would be some special treat. Flavored with pineapple juice. It was nasty. I'm not a fan. I shouldn't be surprised since I've tried coconut water/milk straight from a coconut and didn't like it. So that's out. And lemonade with honey? Never heard of it. Tell me how you make it!

Re: good, kid friendly drinks?
Slushy Strawberry Lemonade will be just fine in a regular blender.
I don't measure anything but basically you need strawberries, ice, lemon juice, water & sweetener of your choice then blend. If you use frozen berries, use less ice & vice versa. For slushier, use more frozen stuff, for thinner lemonade, use more water. I use lots of strawberries but if you don't have any, plain slushy lemonade is awesome, too.

Re: good, kid friendly drinks?
We've been making our own chia drinks. So we make the slushy strawberry lemonade mommylove describes only keep it a bit thin. Add chia seeds and refrigerate for at least 2 hours. We divide ours into 1/2 pint mason jars for easy grabbing.

Re: good, kid friendly drinks?
We drink flavored carbonated water.
We have a soda stream and I will carbonate a liter of water. then add a tablespoon of pomegranate molasses or concentrated juice. Or I will mix it with 3 to one with non concentrated juice.
