Re: Family Photos and Albums - digital or printed or both?
I do both. I have all the pictures on my computer and an external hard drive. I also go through each month and print my favorite pictures. I make project life albums out of them. When I die, I didn't want my kids to have to search through my computer to find pictures. Having them printed just seemed to make it easier. And I'm super crafty and like to do things like that.

Re: Family Photos and Albums - digital or printed or both?
Would it not be cheaper to get a photo printer and photo paper from Costco and print them yourself?

You could do this and then get them bound at Office Max for $4.

Re: Family Photos and Albums - digital or printed or both?
I keep mine mostly digital, though I occasionally print some photos myself for the kids. I'm not worried about the format going away at all and I have digital back ups for everything. All my photos are in standard digital formats, mostly jpg. jpgs have been around since digital images began. IF that format starts to go away, I'm sure there will be conversion tools to easily convert to whatever replaces it. However, digital standards rarely disappear.
As for VHS and others, it is relatively easy to convert to digital. I've just finished converting our VHSs to digital as well as my cassettes. Honestly, the biggest problem with those is the degradation that occurred over time and the fact that the quality is glaringly lower than what we produce nowadays. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If one doesn't want to print pictures, I can support that. As long as the person realizes it's best to have the very best photos saved in several places....buy extra external hard drives and save the best photos to them...one hard drive per kid, perhaps......and then leave those hard drives at someone else's house! Keep the master at your own house, ya know?

Re: Family Photos and Albums - digital or printed or both?
Yup. I have a back up that runs automatically several times a day to a external hard drive in my network (so I don't have to remember to plug it in). I have another portable hard drive I use to back up photos only. Then I have another hard drive I back up to that I store at a friends house 3 hours away. I have some cloud storage options too, but I don't rely on them.
