Old clothes that are stained?
What do you do with old clothes that really can't be donated to Goodwill or other people because no one would want them? Technically the fabrics are still sturdy and have plenty of wear left. It isn't good for using as rags, because it doesn't absorb well at all. I'm not a quilter, so that is out.

Re: Old clothes that are stained?
I use them for dirty jobs and play. I call them beat up clothes and actively seek them out at Goodwill and the like so that I can keep my nicer clothes in good shape. I really go nuts with Ivy's beat up clothes because she is hard on them, same thing with my husband. He has no problem taking her to paint, dye eggs, play in the mud or any other dirty thing in her best clothes. Of course, he has to help in his best clothes.

Re: Old clothes that are stained?
Rags, play clothes, work clothes, painting clothes, and sometimes I'll cut them into strips and add them to my rag rug braid

Also can be used as packing for breakables - like Christmas ornaments.

Re: Old clothes that are stained?
Most good will does some level of fabric recycling. They can be used for industrial uses. So if the fabric is still good I have a tendency to take them to good will all in a bag labled rags.

I throw them away. Or take them with me to the recycle depot where they give us 10c a kg for them, or something ridiculous, but added to the 10c cans and bottles it's something. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Re: Old clothes that are stained?
Answers to this question depend on your outlook, family values and circumstances etc. we have chosen to live without clutter which includes not keeping things for upcycling, and I have slimmed my sewing stash (I'm a quilter). I even donated / scrapped our special clothes being kept for a memory quilt, because the burden of keeping them and the future project 20 years hence was too great for me. I doubt the kids will care and I need to keep my sentimental side under control. If things can't be used for what they were intended or originally owned for, we are letting them go.
