Anyone have a smaller oven?
Normal ovens are 30" wide, our current oven is too. But the space for it is only 26.5" so it overlaps the window a bit and the vent hood is off-center. That has always bugged me. Our oven went poof and we need a new one so I was thinking of getting a smaller one, 24". Do any of you have one? Do you like it? Is it too small or is it fine?

Re: Anyone have a smaller oven?
My oven is regular size. I use my toaster oven a lot, though, and it's just the right size for a 9X9 square pan.
The biggest use I have for my oven is when I want to put two cookie sheets side by side. If you do that frequently I think you would regret a smaller oven.

Re: Anyone have a smaller oven?
My oven is small. It's a wall oven that was here when we bought the house. It is 24 inches wide, the actual opening is only about 17 inches wide.
Personally it drives me nuts. We do lots of cooking and baking and I can't fit a standard large cookie sheet in it. That said we have learned to manage. It's workable for sure.

Re: Anyone have a smaller oven?
Ours is a wall oven that is slightly narrower than standard. We had to replace it a year ago, and I wanted to upsize, but there wasn't enough space. It had three racks, so I can do more food than the previous oven...but I really hate that I can't do two cookie sheets side by side. I roast a lot of vegetables, and find the lack of width frustrating.

Re: Anyone have a smaller oven?
I can't do two side by side cookie sheets now, but I didn't think so measure the inside space to see what will/won't fit.

Re: Anyone have a smaller oven?
I had a smaller oven and did a lot of cooking and baking. I had to get new pans to fit the smaller oven and time things really well. I adjusted after a while, but I won't lie. I was very happy when I left that apartment and got a normal size oven.

Definitely measure to make sure your cookware will fit. I have a friend with a small oven that drives her nuts because she likes to buy Costco pizza & it's too big to fit in the oven without cutting it in half. If that were me, I'd be annoyed, too.

Re: Anyone have a smaller oven?
I have a wall oven and the narrow width is a pain. When roasting veggies, they don't turn out as well because I can't do them side by side. That kind of thing. We have a big family and I try to cook only every other day (making enough for two days) and I'm limited.

Re: Anyone have a smaller oven?
Yep, buying cookware that fits is what makes it manageable.
Bottom line - I desperately want a normal sized oven. We use it A LOT. If we ever redo our original 1960s kitchen, it will be one of the first changes I make. That said, I'm not actually doing anything to get a normal sized oven. This one works fine. Would I chose it? No. Am I content with it and is it manageable? Absolutely. Also, I would rather make a smaller oven work, that actually fit in my kitchen, than have a larger oven that didn't fit properly. I think...

Re: Anyone have a smaller oven?
Now I have to figure this out! It sounds like a small oven will be a noticeable difference. So which will be more annoying: being a little limited in width, or the oven and vent hood not fitting/being centered.

Re: Anyone have a smaller oven?
We have full sized now (at least I assume we do) we did have a tiny one when we were in the apartment. It was doable. It sometimes heated to fast so I had to adjust timing on meals. No idea if that was a size issue or just a cheep appliance issue though.
The TOP of the oven (stove top) was super annoying though it was way way too small. The burners never really laid correctly so no pot regardless of style sat correctly. While it was a four burner because of the odd layout I could never have more than 2 pots on at a time... Again small oven issue or just a cheep model not sure.

Re: Anyone have a smaller oven?
I have had a small "apartment sized" stove/oven combo that only fit smaller baking sheets etc. We were poor but I had to scrounge around for things that would fit. We had the same 4 burner/2 pot problem. I had to carefully consider meals so some stuff was in the oven and some was stove top for every meal. Thankfully we were only a family of 2 but we had friends over a lot.
Then I had a wall mount trailer sized oven with a counter top stove top that was full sized. While it had the same oven issues, cooking was much easier with the full size range top. However, we remodeled and switched it for a standard sized stove/oven combo.

Re: Anyone have a smaller oven?
The whole area is just off, not terrible and it works, it just looks like a mistake was made when they put the cabinets in.

Re: Anyone have a smaller oven?
it does definitely look off but not horrific.
That does make the decision more difficult. I would take a mental I inventory of the bakeware you use most often to see how the smaller size might affect you.
