Yeah, now that I think about it I probably wouldn't use it on root veggies. Now, if there are other veggies that you can simple lift the foliage up and then use it, I would use it watered down on the soil. Generally, I wouldn't tell anyone other than GCM. I'm already the "hippie" in the family according to DH, even if I don't look like one. Imagine all of the ammunition that would give them! I'm going to water the patches where we are trying to grow grass today. Blood in general just doesn't freak me out (probably because it is mine and like PP said, I know I don't have anything).

Wut an interesting thread! The fact that fertilizer is poo always seemed gross to me, but obviously it's used on edibles. So blood water wouldnt bother me.
I have a Diva Cup that I havent gotten a chance to use yet (no period in 18 mons, and only 6 total in almost 5 yrs ), but when AF returns, couldnt I just add the cup's contents to a bucket of water to get the same effect as soak water? (I dont have any cloth pads, dont plan to). I'm curious even tho I dont have a garden, in case my dad would let me put it in his My kids help him plant and pick every year and love it, Id like to contribute, too
Ooooh! Or I could propose he give me one plant in the garden to tend myself, and I could see if my cucumbers R better than his after secretly watering them w/ my blood water!

I would think that just mixing the contents in water and then mixing well or letting sit for a little while (for it to disperse evenly) would have the same effect.

You should do this and let us know!

Now that others mention it, that's right, my dad put straight cow manure on his garden and now does horse manure. Wouldn't this kinda' the same thing? Adding nutrients to the soil?

I have to try this...
I told dh about it and I prepared him by saying: " ok, this is going to sound REALLY gross OK?"
To which he replied: " yeah that sounds fine,.... you can't gross me out anymore, I am pretty used to your weird ideas"

So I will try this if I get AF sometime soon...

last night I left a pad to soak in a big plastic bin on the counter...and fell asleep before DH got home. this morning he says "Babe, we need to talk about something serious. We don't leave cloth pads lying around in buckets of water. Thats just gross." TO which I replied "Oh, don't worry, it's just so I can water my plants with it!" I got a look like this ----->

I'm happy to report today that my fertilized grass is growing quicker than the plain water grass. It looks pretty green. May AF save me from paying the Army for reseeding.

What an excellent thread.

I think I might try mixing the blood with a bit of peat moss or something of the sort and storing that in the bucket, then just mixing it into the garden soil.
