Default unknown animal bite

Early this morning Lucca woke up crying saying something got her. Some kind of animal apparently mistook her for food. She has a couple bite marks on her middle finger, one mark looks pretty clearly like two front teeth and the others look like it was trying to get a grip or something. Her ear has a bigger bite, looks like it might go all the way through, like top teeth and bottom teeth met inside her skin. There was a good bit of blood, enough that it was dripping. We had doors and windows open yesterday and whatever this was brought a piece of a cookie onto the bed and ate it behind a pillow. (We made the bed just before going to sleep, I know for sure none of us left those crumbs). It looks most like a rat but I didn't see or hear the animal, her screaming scared it off before I could get a light on. They do not carry rabies, but I'm wondering if it's ok to take care of this at home. They won't need stitches, I washed the bites but haven't flushed them out. We would have to walk to urgent care to get her seen today. When I googled, most opinion seems to be that puncture wounds on fingers or ears should be seen. I don't want to go to urgent care and I especially don't want to walk all the kids down there, but I also don't want to put my daughter at risk for anything. I am thinking it's ok to wait and watch for signs of infection so long as I keep the bites clean and open. Since I don't know the animal for sure, am I missing something?

Technically I think all animal bites are supposed to get antibiotics. If you're willing to do that, your regular doctor might call in a prescription if you call their after hours number.

If you show her pictures is she able to point out the animal that bit her? I would just be so curious to know what it was and rabies might be a concern. For instance almost all raccoons are rabid.

From what it looks most like, rabies isn't really a risk. It's just incisors I think, which makes it most likely a rat. Typical animals in our yard are squirrels, possums, raccoons, mice, and rats. Possums and raccoons have a much bigger bite.

I can call the after hours line and ask. It was dark, she doesn't know what it was. I asked her to tell me what happened, she said her hand was over hear head by her ear and she woke up to something shaking her hand by her finger. The only other thing she can tell me is that she thought she heard our cat earlier in the night, except she didn't know that our cat was outside.
The only other detail she can give me is maybe she felt fingers and she thought she felt something run on the blanket by her leg once she woke up.

Def sounds like a rat. Did you get peroxide on it right away? https://www.verywell.com/how-to-treat-rat-bites-1298270 Sounds like unless you want a tetanus shot you would want to clean out with peroxiede. I think I would so something like a very warm soak with iodine if you have that several times a day. According to this it looks like to just watch for signs of infection if you dont need stitches. Just saw it advises being checked by MD if on hands or face but would do those other things in meantime

No, she doesn't! She didn't want to go back to bed after that, but she is surprisingly chill about it.

I cleaned it with water first, then hydroden peroxide to keep it open. On her ear, there's a big bruise and still redness there but her finger doesn't look as bad. I called the pediatric urgent care and they said just to wash it and watch for any signs of infection.

*You* are surprisingly chill, too. Like mama, like daughter, I guess.

I'm glad you got the info you needed from the pediatric urgent care.

Confirmed it's a rat. Must have just moved in! We found it was coming in through the bathroom so we locked it in (it chewed up the door though) and put poison out. I'm glad to know what it was, so I know what to look out for.
