I'm so in. I've been meaning to make one for months now. In fact I gathered all my fabric, but never got around to the task of cutting it all. This gives me the push I needed to get started. (Well, until I look at that ginormous pile of fabric to be stripped. Such a task!)

LOL Amber. HOJ, this rug making is addictive and since it's just one simple stitch for most methods I promise if you teach at least one or person in your household the stitch, you'll have trouble getting it back.

All right, I cut out half the strips for my rug tonight. Hoping to cut tomorrow but that depends on a certain little person that may be sick. Blegh on stomach bugs. Thank goodness for elderberry syrup.

My pretty green (holey) sheet is ready and waiting! I already know how to crochet, so I think I'd start there. I'm thinking a simple rectangle would be the easiest, but a circle would certainly be nice too. I've never actually crocheted an oval. I've done coasters in circles.

I don't have a big enough hook either.

HOJ, maybe our rugs will be similar! I have "iced pear" coloured green sheets that are holey and ready to be ripped. They were on our bed still, yesterday, but then DS peed on them so now they are washed and ready for ripping

I'll be doing a rectangle, to fit between our toilet and bath tub. So that I don't slip and fall every time I go into the bathroom after DH showers. I swear, that man jumps out of the shower with the water still running.

okay, the kids are better, made a costco run today and figured out a way to strap my webcam to my head (oh the beauty! That and I can't stand to have to mirror hand work) so I can film tonight.

Stiina and HOJ can't wait to see them! Everyone feel free to post progress pics and/or details of your project.

- where did you get the fabric (recycled or new)
-how much yardage (both during or post project since we know that can change)
-what method you're using, etc.

I have a ball of "old sheet yarn" that could be a rug. And I need a rug. I think I might crochet it.

I also have a started locker hooking rug that I need to get back to...after like 5 years of neglect.

I need to evaluate my fabric stash and select some less loved fabrics for a rug. Last year I used less loved fabric to make gift bags for gifts.

I've been thinking about this...a crochet rug would be holey. Not that I care. But...how did my grandma make the rug I have? It looks braided kinda, but the different rags weave over several rounds of braiding. I believe I have a pic on flickr, but it's probably too macro to see the details. I'll check.

yeah crochet can be holey and less dense. There are toothbrush rugs (done in different methods), clothelines rugs (where the stitch is made around a core of clothesline) and then braided. There are a ton of different braiding styles just like in hair so it sounds like your grandma made them in a multistrand braid. Where's the pic and I can help?

Mandy, locker rug hooking is amazing from what I saw. I stumbled across it researching something else.

Morgan you have no idea. I'm uploading video now and shooting, while talking and thinking (har, har) was a lot harder than I thought. I also kept trying to keep my head still so as to keep the motion sickness factor down and then realized I was completely talking with my hands on video. LOL
