April Decluttering
First, it is sad that I have so much clutter that I keep starting decluttering threads.
But, I am working on it! Our next neighborhood garage sale date is in May - the 10th I think. So, I am preparing for that. I picked up the book "It's All Too Much" at the library on Saturday and have flipped through it some and been inspired. I have set aside some knick knack items that I have had for years - some were my dad's and others are from an aunt - and I am going to tell my sisters that if they want them, they should take them, because if not, they will go in the garage sale.

Re: April Decluttering
I might have read that book. Is it by the same author of, Does this Stuff my my Butt Look Big?. Our local school is participating in a city-wide garage sale so I have been collecting boxes to fill with donations. So far I have mostly empty boxes. Peter Walsh uses the box technique, right? And he moves everything out to the yard to sort. This is giving me the idea that I should move everything out of my crawlspace to sort in the garage. I think it is easier to let things go when they are halfway out.

Re: April Decluttering
I'm on a declutter rampage myself
Dh has been doing some training at work. He's a fire fighter. They said that one if the biggest game changers for firefighters in recent history is the start up of Walmart!! So crazy!! ...anyhow this fact has just reignited my love if minimalism.

Re: April Decluttering
I love having garage sales. It feels so freeing to see all the things go. We don't often sell a lot when we do them, but we do get rid of some stuff. Plus, seeing it all sitting there, laid out in the driveway for sale makes it seem more "junky" to me and I am not as inclined to want to bring it back to the house if it does not sell.
My DD is going to be selling a bunch of clothes on consignment, so it will be good to have those things out of the house. I am also taking some boy clothes to church this week. Kids' clothes are really my biggest clutter issue right now because we have no storage, and six children have a lot of clothes they outgrow. I am making it my goal this month to declutter 7 other things each day, be it throw them out, or put them in the donate box.

Re: April Decluttering
I keep stuff because someday it might be useful.
And sometimes it is and sometimes it never is. Like the old sheets that I thought I might make yarn out of - never did, but used them to cover my garden for a late frost. Then there is the old family stuff that may be worth something but most likely is not but it belonged to old dead family members so it has "meaning". Still working on getting rid of that stuff.

Re: April Decluttering
I cleaned the garage some and the attic some and got things put in boxes for the garage sale from those two places .
I need to ask the kids if I can get rid of the pogo sticks. I probably have more stuff in the house to go through too, but at least I got a start on it today.

Re: April Decluttering
I am joining in on this thread...I have been dragging my feet for a long time trying to get my house organized and decluttered. One step forward, two steps back...LOL. But I need to work on it every day...even if it is just a little bit.

Re: April Decluttering
I'm kind of joining in out of necessity... We're moving in 3 weeks! So lots of stuff to Goodwill, lots into storage, and the tiny bit that remains will go to my ILs house with us.
