Osteopath vs Naturopath....
My son has a thyroid condition and I mentioned to my brother yesterday that I was looking for a naturopath to help us sort things out. He asked if I had considered an osteopath instead.
Can anyone help me sort out the differences and figure out which might be the best options. Apparently osteopaths are more common, but I don't want to take the easy way out either.

Re: Osteopath vs Naturopath....
This breaks it down pretty well. OD's can prescribe medications. http://blog.timesunion.com/healthyli...een-docs/3360/

Re: Osteopath vs Naturopath....
So the chart says OD's "are specially trained in the nervous system and the musculoskeletal system". Does that mean since my son's issues are immune based that a naturopath might be the better path?

Re: Osteopath vs Naturopath....
Fwiu some ODs are quite similar to your average MD while others are quite different. I'm not super clear on how other than that some do manipulations similar to a chiro?
Hopefully someone who has seen one will chime in. I'm positive I've read threads about it if you search. |

---------- Post added at 01:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:44 PM ---------- I meant to say this earlier but didn't get a chance. In my experience DO's tend to see the body as a completely connected. If some thing isn't working right in one part, it's probably really because this isn't balanced I believe their training takes a much more holistic (whole body) and hands off. That said, it really depends on the doctor. some times I feel like some DO's give up on some of their ideals, because they have to practice some where and no one in their area wants what they offer. We have seen a few DO's, I do love their focus in "inside out" medicine... focus on supplementing the body with vitamins and minerals when some thing isn't working right, and their stress on nutrition. That said, some times I feel like some of their advice in that realm is even outdated because our understanding of how minerals and vitamins and everything works has grown since they were in medical school.
