Anyone with a CHLORINE FREE pool?
DH and I are discussing getting an above-ground pool. They're on sale right now and they're pretty affordable. We do not want to use chlorine. I've read about it, including that, when used properly it isn't harsh. I sell chlorine pool chemicals at my job so I am familiar with them but we just don't want to use them. Salt water systems are chlorine generators so I don't want that, either.
Baquacil has some pretty bad reviews. Apparently it works great the first 1-2 years and then you have sludge build-up and you spend hundreds of dollars every year trying to keep your pool clear? The ionizers have mixed reviews, too. |

Re: Anyone with a CHLORINE FREE pool?
My parents used Baquacil in their above ground pool when I was a kid, I don't remember Dad ever having any problem and we had it for several years. Once both us kids were older and not using the pool, they gave it away, so this is all from 20+ years ago but I would think if anything they'd have improved Baquacil since then, not made it work less well?

Re: Anyone with a CHLORINE FREE pool?
My brother and sister-in-law have had a saltwater pool for a couple years now and been really happy with it. They don't have any build up that I know of either.

Re: Anyone with a CHLORINE FREE pool?
What size pool are you taking about? We use a small amount of chlorine to get by.

An actual saltwater pool or a chlorine generator that uses salt? (Those are often called saltwater pools.)

Re: Anyone with a CHLORINE FREE pool?
We have a salt water system (turns salt to chlorine) and absolutely love it! We've had it for 6 years, no problems.

Re: Anyone with a CHLORINE FREE pool?
So what is difference in having a saltwater pool and chlorine pool if one is trying to avoid swimming in chlorine?

Re: Anyone with a CHLORINE FREE pool?
My in-laws have a decent sized in-ground pool that they treat with Baquasomething. They have been there for I think ten years now and haven't had issues.
