Cloth Napkins
So, a couple of people have posted about using cloth napkins to save money and go green. Since I'm already washing bibs anyway, I thought maybe we would switch to using cloth napkins can so we wouldn't burn through 1 million paper towels every week. But I don't have any.
I'm hoping to maybe order some on Amazon or something. Does anyone have a brand or anything that they would recommend? I don't want to spend a lot of money. They're not for fancy dinner parties or anything, just something for us to use around the house. And I definitely don't want anything I'm going to have to iron. There is no way I have time for that. If you use cloth napkins, where did you get yours? Or are they easy to make? Like super easy. I'm lucky if I can get my sewing machine threaded half the time.

Re: Cloth Napkins
I got mine at the thrift store. Seems like people don't want sets of 3 napkins when the 4th one gets lost.

Re: Cloth Napkins
mine are an ugly hand me down set that my SIL was getting rid of. They are even more ugly now, with their stains and wrinkles... I just shove them in a basket and we fly through them in a couple days... I should get a "nice" set for company.. it's kind of embarrassing to use these for guests... so for new ones

Re: Cloth Napkins
Yea, I definitely wouldn't spend much on them. I think all of mine were purchased at garage sale or thrifts store. Like a pp also said, you can cut up old towels, or any soft clothing. A lot of our "cloth napkins" are truly just a random assortment of dish towels and wash cloths. You can usually pick up as many of those as you want at garage sales for pennies.

Re: Cloth Napkins
My favorite ones are the linen ones. They seem to hold up the best. Generally I try to find them at the thrift shop or clearance racks. I also have a few friends who keep their eyes open for me. They can be made, but I haven't because there are no fabric stores close enough to me and my sewing machine and I aren't on speaking terms atm.

Re: Cloth Napkins
I found mine on clearance at Walmart years ago for less than $1 apiece.
Sewing would be easy, just a square of fabric with straight hems. For "paper towels" we just use cheap washcloths (Walmart has packs of 12 for cheap, I got that when the twins started solid foods (so 11 years ago and they were getting to the point where I figured I should replace them when my mom cleaned out my grandma's house (she moved into assisted living) and found stacks of old washcloths so I just took those). So honestly, when it's just us, those get used to wipe faces and fingers instead of napkins, the napkins generally are used for company.

Re: Cloth Napkins
Just pick up some of those cheapie washcloth sets. Then you can build a stash of regular napkins from there.

Re: Cloth Napkins
That's what we have. One too many tomato sauce stains and they get tossed, but they work great. And then we have a nice set for special occasions

Re: Cloth Napkins
I make mine with a quilting square and serger, any fabric is fair game haha. I had these vintage Sesame Street bed sheets that became napkins -some even have the "Tweedle Bugs" on them and better yet, no Elmo.

Re: Cloth Napkins
I had a gift card to Pier One and then they were running some special and I picked up my white set. My red set, I do believe, was Walmart.
