Can This Frosting be Saved?
I ruined my icing for DH's birthday cake.
I overwhipped the butter, I think. It separated when I added the liquid, and it is a mess. Runny, yet fluffy (as in, too airy), and I can see how it is sort of separated. I'd take a picture if I had time. I was using this one http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2...ocha-brownies/ I have made it before with the brownies, but it has been a while. This is for a layer cake. Anyway, it is a mess, and DH is going to hate it. It does not even taste like coffee for some reason. I doubled it, too, so that is way too many ingredients to throw out. But, I will if I have to. Before I do, though, I will take many suggestions to try to salvage it.

Re: Can This Frosting be Saved?
was the coffee hot when you added it? that may be why it broke.
Here is an article about fixing broken icings. Maybe that will help? I've never tried it before: http://everydaylife.globalpost.com/k...ing-38567.html |

Stick it in the fridge and let it cool completely. Then you can try to rewhip it. You should be able to get it to bind together.

Re: Can This Frosting be Saved?
Thanks!
The link derdsgirl posted was helpful. It did come together enough to use, but it was not very good frosting. Much too sweet and "whippy" for the cake and filling I used. Not what I was going for, but I am glad I was at least able to use it. Thankfully, the cake and filling were very good, and should have just been left alone. They did not need frosting at all, so we just scraped it off.
