Safest/Healthiest Pots & Pans?
Can anyone share some recommendations on the safest/healthiest pots & pans to use? I want to avoid aluminum & Teflon. I bought one cast iron pan & am considering going w/stainless steel for the rest, but I think I am going to miss the non-stick surfaces I am accustomed to.

I think the safest would be ceramic. It's supposed to be non-stick. I want to get some ceramic pans eventually.

Re: Safest/Healthiest Pots & Pans?
we love all our cast iron pans! they become non stick if you use them and clean them right (lots of sites out there will tell you how to care for them) and i also have stainless steel for the rest, which you can actually make nonstick for a few uses by boiling vinegar in them

Re: Safest/Healthiest Pots & Pans?
I just started using cast iron not long ago, I cook at lower temperatures and have had no troubles.
I also really like vitreous enamel trays and roasting pans well worth the extrs cost. |

I have cast iron, stainless, and enameled cast iron (Le Creuset).
Preheat your pans. Food is less likely to stick. I tossed all my non-stick in 2003 and I don't miss it at all. |

Re: Safest/Healthiest Pots & Pans?
We have decided to go with stainless steel because it's simple, easy & safe.
We used cast iron pans before, but DH was getting sick from food cooked in cast iron. I believe he was showing symptoms of iron overload. We read extensively and decided to go with stainless steel. You might miss the non-stick surfaces until you get into a new routine with whatever cookware you choose. As already mentioned, properly preheating makes a big difference. Also, waiting to turn foods until they're ready to be flipped, turned or stirred makes things stick less.

Re: Safest/Healthiest Pots & Pans?
(Editing for clarity)
Frying - cast iron Baking - stoneware or Pyrex Pots - stainless steel or Pyrex Egg pan - ceramic I have some other stuff but am trying to phase it out. My dh and mil won't give up their Teflon. I've had to sneak peeling Teflon pans out of the house. Then deal with the people getting mad Bc their fave pan is gone I've never seen people so addicted to Teflon pans. For real.

Re: Safest/Healthiest Pots & Pans?
For non stick I use greenpans. For frying, searing meat, things that cook on a griddle like pancakes, things that start on the stovetop and go into the oven - cast iron. For soups, stews, sauces, simmering, etc - stainless steel.

Re: Safest/Healthiest Pots & Pans?
You do need to read up on stainless steel. (I do use these for pots too). As newer ones seem to be made with a mix of aluminum whereas older ones weren't. I find it rather hard figuring out what pots are made of when trying to buy them! I am looking to replace mine as the bottom bit is starting to come off.

Re: Safest/Healthiest Pots & Pans?
I have silicone muffin cups and silicone egg poaching cups. And I LOVE them!! I do not grease the cups and nothing ever sticks. I make egg muffins for breakfasts (eggs, sausage, cheese, veggies), and STILL nothing sticks. I like it that they're flexible. So, it's really easy to pop things out. You can turn the whole cup inside out if needed. I have silicone loaf pans on my wish list.

Re: Safest/Healthiest Pots & Pans?
Awesome! I was thinking of getting some silicone stuff. The bagel/donut pan is especially intriguing
