I would think Celtic sea salt would be okay...

Katigre, I think that paleo/primal encourages broth but doesn't make it the priority. GAPS makes broth top priority IMO. . . In fact, in all the documents that recommend slow starting, they start with broth. SO I call Broth the foundation of GAPS I've been doing broth for a long long time. . . here is a quick T3 breakdown (since I totally get that ). 1. meat broth - whole chicken boiled for 3 hours. Cool and remove chicken, put in refrigerator (I don't add any spices here). Use meat for something (soup, chicken and gravy, chicken salad, etc). Save bones for step 2 or freeze. 2. Bone broth - broil chicken and eat for dinner Combine broiled and boiled chicken carcass into pan or crockpot, add 2 carrots, 1 onion, 1 celery, and garlic. I don't salt or add other spices because it can keep the minerals from leeching out properly. Bring to boil and simmer for 1 day to 5 days. I often do perpetual broth - so after 24 hours I strain off broth and add water. Over and over so that I get a lot of broth. (NOTE: I use both a broiled and boiled chicken carcass because we've found the flavor to taste off if just using a boiled carcass but everyone will develop their own method). AFA the benefits. Here is a really good (short!) article about both types http://www.lovingourguts.com/the-dif...roth-or-stock/ ANd just a little note, we like the flavor of meat broth for soups, I add broth to stuff to get it into us.. . . especially tomato based stuff (chili, spaghetti, taco salad). I actually use tomato paste and thin it to consistency with broth for some things - GAPs allows tomato paste that is only one ingredient (tomatoes). When I haven't added it to a meal, we just drink it in condiment cups. I used to add it to more dinners but I became lazy and went to the condiment cup method. And thankfully, my kids are used to it so I don't hear complaints (or they whine a second and drink it down because our family rule is no seconds until broth is done). I freeze broth constantly and then I run out of it constantly. Especially now that it's really too hot to keep perpetual broth going all the time. This winter, I kept up by keeping my nesco going 24/7 almost all winter but it is too warm now. ---------- Post added at 09:14 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:13 AM ---------- P.S. Above linked blog is a wonderful GCM ---------- Post added at 09:14 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:14 AM ---------- We use only Real Salt - as long as it's not processed (i.e. white) any real sea salt is good. Real Salt is just from this continent (Utah) I believe and is a light brown color

One more quick question: how long is broth okay in the fridge if not immediately frozen?

In the winter I drink a lot more broth like a quart or so in a mug w salt
But I suddenly had ur visual and imagined me drinking broth out of my huge stein from Germany that is actually decor and not for drinking. Like a broth guzzling party .

The Celtic I use is grey and supposed to be really good. I still use mostly kosher for cooking though...
If you cook a whole chicken (in the crockpot) to the point the bones are crumbling, is it considered a meat or bone broth?

I would imagine bone - that length of cooking may destroy some of the meat broth nutrients and if the bones are crumbling, they are definitely giving you the good stuff for bone broth Oh and I agree celtic is good I just believe Real Salt is AS good with a cheaper price tag WAY cheaper - if you are using kosher for cooking you may want to look into real salt - very affordable

Re: D. R. P. T. ! (dietary revamp processing thread ;) )
Also craving salt heavily is a sign that your adrenals are needing alderostone for healing. C goes through times where he has a little chicken with his salt. Especially when we first started GAPS, his body was finally able to absorb all those minerals and he just couldn't get enough. But as his adrenals have healed during the year on GAPS the heavy cravings are less frequent and pass quickly.
