Default Has anyone had or have a Roomba?

I have been wanting one for a while, mostly for the pet hair. If you have one, would you recommend it for maintenaince type vacuuming? I would still plan to use my regular vacuum, but I just can't keep up with all the hair.

I have one and it is awesome for cleaning up silt/sand and dust bunnies. After about two years the battery stopped holding a charge. I need to replace the battery because I miss using the Roomba.

Default Re: Has anyone had or have a Roomba?

From the people I know who have them, they LOVE them...But they also don't last "for years" like other vacuums...they need new batteries or some times need to be fully replaced with in 5 years.

Then again, most things "don't last like they used to..." We have a giant obnoxiously heavy Electrolux vacuum from the 1960's (I'm not kidding) and it works like a beast. BUT it's super heavy and annoying. I got a cheap cordless cheap stick vacuum for Mother's Day and I feel pathetic for how much I love that thing. I want a Roomba but because of the baby gate at the kitchen doorway I don't think it would really be helpful at this point.

I saw one on craigslist, so I am really tempted. But I am also figuring that it won't last that long since it is already used.

The newer versions are much, much better than the ones from years ago. I have talked to people that have them and absolutely love them. Very clean, meticulous people. One person told me she couldn't believe how much dirt it picked up from her freshly vacuumed house. I'm interested in one because of dog and cat hair, also.

We have one and we love it. Our dog sheds terribly too, so it has been worth every nickel. This is an instance where a Bed, Bath, and Beyond 20% off coupon really can pay off big.

My brother has one and they love it. They have 2 german shepherds and dark hardwood floors and his gf is a neat freak. They have it programmed to run during the night.

I read reviews before buying ours, and the consensus was that Costco was the best place to buy the Roomba because it was the easiest place to exchange the unit if you had problems.

I dont have a roomba but what I have done that helped a ton was to have vacuming be one of ds1's daily chores. I have a cordless stick vacuum and he uses that to run around the house once a day for 5 to 10 minutes. He thinks it is great fun and he picks up a ton of hair. Is it perfect? No definitely not but it helps a lot.

Default Re: Has anyone had or have a Roomba?

I used to let my kids vacuum a lot. I had one that was obsessed with vacuums so that made it easy. But this dog sheds a ton and with homeschooling it is hard to keep up. We can't be doing spelling or math (something where the extra noise interferes) and be vacuuming at the same time. I am hoping that if we buy a Roomba, dh can set it up before he goes to bed and we can just run it at night and then do some more hard core vacuuming as time permits. I am just so sick of the massive amounts of dog hair around here.

I called the guy on craigslist and I am planning to pick it up tomorrow if everything works out.

We had one pre kids and it was great for daily maintenance. I worked full time and it would run during the day and did a decent job on the dog hair, except for cracks and corners. The batteries do die fairly easily and we replaced ours and then I started staying home and it annoyed me to be running when I was home.

Did you need to buy your replacement battery online? I'm having a hard time figuring out where to find one.

I just got home from buying the one on craigslist. So far I am excited. It comes with two batteries, so I am hoping that that helps to preserve the battery. Dh just vacuumed the mass of hair and dirt this morning, but tomorrow I am going to try it out. My plan is to run it at night. We will see.
