What do you know about Danny Silk?
I guess some pastor named Danny Silk has podcasts about "loving our kids on purpose." She says he speaks about helping out children to take responsibility for their actions and teaching them how to make decisions with everyone in mind not just themselves. It talks about how God helps us to deal with the like that.
THAT description sounds pretty good. Scrolling is facebook page Im seeing some of his commentators are making comments that sound patriarchalish. Also, I know this friend because we grew up in the same cult, so.... You know, caution. |

Re: What do you know about Danny Silk?
I liked the book. However, it has a very Love and Logic bent that is best suited for older kids, like 9 yo and up IMO. Reading it when C was 5 left me feeling a bit punitive towards him because using logical consequences on a child that has not developed logic yet (and had undiagnosed SN) isn't going to make them develop logic if they haven't reached that developmental stage yet. There have been discussions here on it before if you want to search.

Re: What do you know about Danny Silk?
I read his book several years ago, soon after reading Love & Logic. Very similar, but I felt that L&L was more . . . mean/manipulative (almost setting kids up to fail) and Loving Your Kids on Purpose was more loving/gentle. My kids were young, definitely too young (IMO) for L&L, and I felt that I could pull some ideas from LYKoP but wouldn't have recommended it as the only parenting book for while kids are young. I should re-read it now that I have teenagers and see what I think now . . .

Re: What do you know about Danny Silk?
He's very strong on building emotional connection, being responsible with our words i.e. not tearing kids down verbally, and on things like asking them questions which help them think through issues for themselves, rather than just telling them how to solve a problem. He has a really good book called Keep Your Love On, which is about setting healthy boundaries in a way that protects connection in all relationships. His website is lovingonpurpose.com

Re: What do you know about Danny Silk?
It's been awhile since I read it but I remember thinking it was a better book for older kids and like many parenting books it was a bit too much on the punitive side for the younger ones.

Haven't read his parenting book, but his relationship book "Keep Your Love On" revolutionized our marriage - including how we related to and communicated with each other! The parenting one is definitely on my reading list!

Re: What do you know about Danny Silk?
He's not patriarchal. he comes from a charismatic ministry passionate about women in leadership. That said it isn't a huge focus or some thing obvious, I think because they don't want to alienate anyone from their ministry and message: identity in Christ.
