Food Poisoning or Reaction?
I have not had any sugar, grains other than a little rice, or gluten in about three weeks. (Was trying to lose weight)
Last night, I made cake balls and ate quite a bit of the "dough", as well as one or two dipped ones. Then, I woke up at 6AM with the worst stomach cramping ever. Two hours later, whatever was causing the cramping left my system, IYKWIM, DH said it sounds like food poisoning. Now I am worried about taking my cake balls to the event I was taking them to. How would one get food poisoning from cake balls, though? I made a cake from a mix, homemade cream cheese icing, and refrigerated the "dough". I dipped them in candy melts w/ a little shortening added. The other things that I ate yesterday: Lunch was an apple from Aldi and two boiled eggs (boiled on Monday--- I counted 4- 24 hour days, so I thought they'd be fine. ) Breakfast was Shakeology, but I added Maca root powder and collagen in my shake.. I upped my Maca by a teaspoon, for a total of 3 tsp, and I had gluten free pizza for dinner. Could it be my body rejecting the sugar/cake or do you think the cake balls were tainted? (Udi's frozen. Ate half, which is the serving size. First time eating that.)

Re: Food Poisoning or Reaction?
I assume you are the only one who ate them so you can't see if anyone else got sick?
Your cake balls do not sound like something that would be likely to involve food poisoning since you refrigerated them. Food poisoning often takes days to develop anyway- it could be something you ate on Monday even (sometimes it can take up to a month to develop, but that is more rare). So even if it is food poisoning, it's unlikely to be from the cake balls. I would think you would be safe. As for whether it's a reaction or food poisoning, I don't know. Without throwing up or diarrhea, I'd say less likely food poisoning, but it still could be. But again, even if so, probably not the cake balls.

Yes, only I ate them, and every thing else i ate yesterday. I edited my post to be a bit more descriptive in the spoiler.

Re: Food Poisoning or Reaction?
That could be a reaction or it could be food poisoning, but I don't think it's likely to be the cake balls. If you want to be sure you could feed them to your family for breakfast and see what happens.

Re: Food Poisoning or Reaction?
It sounds like a reaction to all that sugary dough especially since it cleared out so quickly and only involved yur lower gut.Do you have probiotics to take? Agree food pisoning usually happens pretty quickly with nausea and vomiting involved

Re: Food Poisoning or Reaction?
In my experience food poisoning happens violently from every available orifice. tummy cramps and diarrhea are likely from too much carbs too fast =)

Re: Food Poisoning or Reaction?
I agree. Unlikely to be the cake balls, more likely a reaction to a sudden overload for you. When if your event that you're bringing the treats to? If you're super concerned, you could always have someone else try them as a guinea pig before you bring them. But if you don't have time, truthfully, I wouldn't worry. I'm sure they are delicious!
