Re: Unused room
If freezer could be moved elsewhere it looks like could fit a love seat sized piece of furniture there and also have room for the kid table

Re: Unused room
No, not yet. I want to, but I don't want to. If that makes any sense. I've been using the room when I'm here alone. I knit or fold laundry, maybe watch/listen to Netflix shows.

Re: Unused room
Even if it is a retaining wall you can knock down most of it and create pillars or columns for the main studs. It would make the dining room more open. Maybe a half wall with pillars?

Re: Unused room
That's what I thought, but Dh said he didn't think it would be a good idea. (But I do!) the section I wanted to take down is about 6-7 feet wide.

Re: Unused room
if you could move your freezer to the other side of the bifold door you could put your sofa in the kitchen =) if it's the hangout anyway it could be nice to have extra seating in there.

Re: Unused room
I am in the middle of building a bunkhouse and I know all about walls and support from my plans vs. what the builder says must be done.
From what I have gathered, the drywall part which is between the studs isn't really much of a support system at all. So, maybe your DH doesn't realize that or maybe he just knows how much work tearing down is. Good luck!

The back door is on that wall so there's not enough room for the freezer there. Quote:
The work is the issue, I think. I think he just doesn't want to do it. Amy Happy & blessed wife for 24 yrs. Joyful mom to five girls, and one boy.

Re: Unused room
We've done that. No one used the living room and the dining room, which is open to the kitchen was super cramped because it was also the computer and school room.
So, we turned the living room into the dining room and the dining room is extra kitchen space, school room and computer room. We love it!
