Default If you've gone completely paperless....

....to manage your household, what would you recommend?

I'm not sure I'm ready to do this yet, partially because I'm visual and kinesthetic enough to want to see and feel the calendar in my hands or the to-do list or whatever. Yet, I find the idea intriguing.

So, if you've gone paperless and ALL of your calendars, to-do lists, household routines, etc are in your phone and/or computer, please educate me.

I can't say I am completely paperless, but nearly! I use an app called Cozi that is both free and totally awesome! Your whole family shares an account. It has a calendar and each person has their own color. It will text you reminders if you tell it to. It has a shopping list, "to do" list, and a journal section (that I don't use.)

As for other papers, I scan and shred as much as I can. And I am nearly OCD with my multiple backups because my files are my only records. But "scan and shred" has allowed me to get rid of a lot of paper stuff that I couldn't quite let go of.

Default Re: If you've gone completely paperless....

I use 3 programs:

Evernote (https://www.evernote.com/referral/Re...fefac7fcbc19ed affiliate link)

Google Calendar

Toodledo http://www.toodledo.com/

All 3 are on my computer, phone and tablet so they're always with me

Google Calendar is pretty straight forward . . . birthdays, appointments, etc. The reminders coming into my e-mail and popping up on my phone are my lifesaver with it.

Toodledo is a to do list app/program I haven't played with it as much as I should to optimize, but it works well for my on-going to do list. It's linked to Google calendars too so if I check my calendar I'll also see that I have something due on that day.

Evernote is my BRAIN. It's everything else. Lesson plans, menu plans, recipe box, little notes I need to keep track of, when I see school ideas or seasonal ideas or gift ideas, they get saved to Evernote. One thing that I LOVE is I have tags for each month, when I want to remember something in a given month I tag it accordingly. So, for example, I just went through my 2014.11 tag, it had a bunch of Thanksgiving unit studies and stuff. I noted any that I might want to use this year in my lesson plans and then re-tagged them for 2015.11 so I can re-evaluate next year and use the ones I want. I also had a pumpkin challah recipe tagged for this month. And several homemade gift ideas, either for me to make for the kids or for the kids to make for grandparents. . . I'll also randomly tag things like "ways to tell your child you love them" for a few months from now, so that I get those random reminders/encouragement. . . I was running late this month, but typically a couple days before the 1st of the month, I go through everything in that tag and add it to menu plans, lesson plans, to do lists, etc. Or just "re-file" it to a new month, or no month at all.

I generally check my calendar once a week, Toodledo every couple of days (unless I have lots going on, but I try to keep things not too busy), I'm in Evernote all the time. I often write non-school-related notes into the lesson plans because I know that I'll be checking that every day. I do a shopping list in Evernote with checkmarks, then I just pull it up on my phone and mark things off as I go. Same with packing lists and to do lists before trips (but if I played with it, I think toodledo would work as well/better for some of that).

The one thing I haven't figured out completely is how to go paperless on things my kids need to see too. So I haven't found a work around printing out the menu plan (or writing it out on a white board) since they do alot of the cooking. But by planning it all in Evernote, I can check it when we're at the store, or running late (what we were supposed to do for supper?) or whatever. . .

I carry a pad of post-its in my purse so if I have to jot down a note when I'm out and don't want to take time to enter it into my phone, I can jot down a sticknote and then stick it to the back of my phone until I get home.

So I guess I'm not quite 100% paperless, but I'm close.

Part of me still really misses my old DayTimer, but I've never found a paper system that works well now that I'm not working a desk job. When I was an accountant (pre-kids) i had my DayTimer and it sat open on my desk at all time and I kept everything, work and personal in it, and it was always RIGHT THERE. Now I'm not in one spot all the time, so I need the portability of a paperless system.
