Though it depends on the day and which customs officer you get...sometimes you get dinged big time with taxes and stuff.

Oh! Yes, never select DHL as your shipping choice. Sometimes it shows up as the cheaper option and even with a faster arrival date, but they will always put customs taxes on it to make up for it. I find it I select the slowest method of shipping, I have never been dinged.

Re: D. R. P. T. ! (dietary revamp processing thread ;) )
good points. I had a pretty big order tallied up - around $150 - but I was all about them not taking Canadian paypal. I guess I could give them my credit card number.
I ended up ordering from well.ca but I know it's not as cheap. |

The heat used for refining removes/destroys the nutrients, and you lose a lot of the antioxidants. It's probably not TERRIBLE for you to eat, but it won't give you the health BENEFITS that you would be seeking by wanting to include CO in your diet.

Re: D. R. P. T. ! (dietary revamp processing thread ;) )
Stiina I think DF is a good plan but what about homeopathics?
The one thing that popped in my mind also was caffeine. While caffeine is often a treatment for headaches it can also make a problem Sorry if u know all this but we have 4 people who have suffered migraines under our roof (only dd2 hasn't) and I feel So much sympathy when people start talking headaches. I just want to keep throwing out ideas to see if they have thought of this or that

Re: D. R. P. T. ! (dietary revamp processing thread ;) )
Jodi I will take any suggestions.
I don't have any caffiene. No coffee or pop or anything. What homeopathics are you recommending? Or are you telling me to go to a homeopathic doctor? $$$$$$ Shekinah - that DOES look good. We've been finding as well that our stir fries are just as good without rice or noodles. |

Here is my homeopath's website http://www.classicalhomeopathywisconsin.com/index.html I believe he also does phone consultations but they are known to not be as affective as homeopathy is also based on appearance and mannerisms. And to clarify, some issues take a long time to improve and can be cyclically treated. He practices classical homeopathy (not sure if you are familiar with that type of homeopathy or not). He describes our health problems like an onion, we have to dig one layer at a time to achieve true healing; however, usually the most "urgent" of problems is the one "healed up" first. Does that make sense? For us, the things we were MOST unhappy about always were the first to leave (one rage, one depression, one sinus problems, one insomnia, one constant meltdowns - although that last one was ME taking a 5 year old for constant meltdowns). Headaches went away and lessened rapidly but weren't the PRIMARY reason for going when we started. Now as we move forward, we find more annoying things we want "fixed" and it seems when it moves to the point of "most annoying" is when it gets fixed up. Here's the example, recently ds was struggling with hiding WHENEVER he was upset about something and it was becoming problematic - this wasn't alone time but he was intentionally "punishing himself" for being "bad" if I corrected him no matter what I told him (it's my job as mom to help you improve, this isn't punishment). It was RULING our day. He's always had this problem but it seems like it flared up as he healed up other issues - like it came into the light after the layer above was healed. So, the homeopath talked to me ON THE PHONE and prescribed a new remedy for ds. Within 4 days of starting the remedy, the problem vanished. Now a new problem is creeping up but I have yet to figure out if it's going to disappear on this remedy or need a new remedy. It's only been here for 4 days since he started the stronger remedy. Sorry if this is confusing.

That's great info and examples. i like the onion example. I'd loooove it if my headaches went away first. I wouldn't even know how to behave without a headache in my life. It's been over a decade.

Re: D. R. P. T. ! (dietary revamp processing thread ;) )
Since this is the processing thread....I'm having doubts about high meat and fat consumption again. I started reading about the "Blue Zones" where the healthiest people in the world live. All of the zones eat a plant based diet. If they do eat meat, it's usually on special occasions or once a week. It makes me rethink the Paleo diet, even though I'm enjoying eating lots of meat lately.

I think fat consumption really varies for the individual too, depending on activity level, metabolism, pregnancy, lactation, etc. I tend to think that soaked nuts and avocado are a little healthier than oils and butter though... Has anyone else found that wierd stuff happens when you slip up? 3 times in the past couple months I slipped up and ate either white flour or white sugar and I got a bad cold followed by mastitis I think it's really interesting that I could eat that way all the time before and I "only" had a backache from my gallbladder & now my body is reacting so strongly

All sides have their pros and cons, and the research supporting and refuting their position. What it boils down to for me is THIS way of eating is how I feel best, etc - whether that's paleo, low-fat, vegetarian, food combining, blood type diet, or any other eating plan.

Re: D. R. P. T. ! (dietary revamp processing thread ;) )
My husband had a gluten reaction and I was SO EXCITED!!!!
We've been mostly grain-free and absolutely gluten-free for a couple months, and then he was in the city and had a sandwich for lunch. When he got home he was thundering. and he was sooooo stinky. He looked at me with a confused face and we both said "GLUTEN!!!!" Then a couple days later he drank one beer in the afternoon and he was farting again all evening. Gluten in the barley in the beer. I was thrilled that he had concrete proof that his body doesn't like gluten. |
