Default Positive Discipline - Week 8

http://blog.positivediscipline.com/2...-training.html

Here is the link for week 8; take time for training.

Here is a review of this tool by Pearl In Oyster:

http://gracefuldiscipline.blogspot.c...-training.html

I think this week I will make it my goal to teach the kids to make their own beds. That way when we get to our morning and evening routine charts we can include bed making.

We are learning in our discipleship class at church something very similar along these lines. The material discusses the stages of maturity in discipling someone in Christ. The first is the leader does and the disciple watches, the second is the leader does and the disciple helps, the third is the disciple does and the leader helps and the fourth is the disciple does and the leader watches. It's neat to me to see how that correlates with parenting as well.

This is actually one I work on pretty regularly. (This week I showed DS1 how to get pillows into their cases by folding the pillow in half.)

The other thing I've been doing is putting all the weekly chores in a jar and having the boys take turns pulling out a task and then we all go do it together. It's not as fast as just me doing them, but it shows them what it takes to keep the house neat, and keeps them from making more of a mess while I'm out of sight.

I used to be pretty good at this, but I realize I've slacked off. I think I got frustrated with how long it takes for DD to be able/willing to do things independently. Even for tasks she is fully capable of, she refuses to do it unless I am right there helping her, and after a while it's just quicker to do it myself. I need to remember the long-term payoff.

This is where I am too. Though last night we made pizzas and I get them started early enough that the girls could help and we could eat in time.
