Default HE top loader. Love it? Hate it?

Our new house has one. I hated my HE front loader so I just want to keep my conventional top loader but dh wants me to try the HE that is there, but he doesn't ever do laundry, I do all the laundry!

We just switched to a HE top loader a few months ago. I think it does just fine. I think that the conventional works better in some ways - I feel like sometimes they work better for getting stains out and such, but I have figured out to adjust the wash settings if I have a particularly soiled load. I do like the HE top loader for other things, like washing giant stuffed animals We got a large capacity one since we have a large family. Since there is no center agitator, I can get the giant stuffed animals washed, no problem Also, since we have a larger capacity one, I get more laundry done in a shorter amount of time. That's pretty awesome!

We had one for years and I loved it. It did a good job on getting the washing clean and was gentle on clothes. (Fisher and Paykel).

Unfortunately it washed its last a couple of years ago. We were given another one (a different brand that I would not have chosen myself - LG). I don't like it at all. I can't seem to get the washing clean and it often chews clothes.

That being said, I would happily buy one again, just not this brand.

(I included the brand names, but I do not know if they are in the US or not.)

So it's in there now and belongs to you? What would you do with it if you removed it to install yours?

I'd definitely leave it in and try it out. Then if you hate it you can always remove it then and install your current machine. I wouldn't get rid of your current one before you get a chance to try out the existing one.

Do you have room in the garage to store your old one while you try this one out for a bit? Does the HE have the option for using extra water? I've done some reading on them (we will probably replace in the next year or two) and that seems to be a popular feature for extra soiled loads.

Yes. We will sell the ones we don't keep. The new house Maytag washer and dryer were purchased in 2010. I think my Maytag dryer was purchased about 2007 and my GE washer purchased about 2015.

Don't know, will have to look about the extra water. Not really room in the garage, but room enough. I told dh I'd need 2 months to say if I wanted to keep the HE or not. I just think clothes get washed better with lots of water. Trying to save water to wash clothes doesn't work well.

My HE washer has a setting called "deep water wash". That's what I use when I have a more heavily soiled load.

We have two sets here. They seem to work fine. The towels and work clothes can be tricky. But, one has the option to add extra water. It has a knob and if you turn it, it will add extra water to the main wash. Also, I adore having two sets. If you can install even just the washer in your garage then keep them both.

I liked mine, until it couldn't remain balanced. It bumped and thumped and broke. I have a front loader now. With the special soap recommended by the store, it works quite well.

We had a front loader for a few years and it died. I hated it. Loads took forever!! (Over and hour for a standard, moderately dirty load. That and once it got to the spin cycle, it would re calculate the time remaining.)

We've got a top loader now and it's much faster - 45 minutes per load on average. It's got the deep water feature, but I've never used it. It seems to be doing a decent job.

Oh, yeah, my front loader took an hour or more for a wash too!

I had to figure out how to add a garment on this HE top loader in the new house. I started a load then turned and saw a sheet I wanted to add but the lid was locked. Later read the manual of how to do it.

This set is so fancy though! They play a little jingle every time they are turned on, cute but annoying!

You might be able to mute the sound; I have a HE top load Samsung and I can mute the little jingle. My machines are "fancy" too - I don't completely understand every setting, but I've figured out how to use the washer and dryer enough to make it work for us. The wash cycle is long for almost every setting, and the dryer even takes a long time too. FWIW, my mom has an LG front load and she really likes it. And she has done LOTS of laundry at my house recently bc she has been helping a lot with the addition of our third child. So she has enough experience to compare the two machines.

Ours plays the jingle, too. It's all touch screen, but not necessarily intuitive. The words "Add Garment" light up when the cycle starts and you press on that to unlock the lid to add something to a current cycle. It's a little misleading because sometimes you press an actual button and other times you press the dots or a word.
