Default Re: The "Right" way to fold towels

I went through a phase where I didn't fold anything. But now my dear mother in law lives with me and watches me and judges me. So. I fold dh's clothes first, like I actually care, because if she weren't there Id just be like "here YA go husband, there's a cleaners on the corner". Then sometimes I hang my stuff but only so I can arrange it in rainbow order in my closet.

Sorry, derail!

These are my bath towels in our bathroom cabinet. I got tired of the mess that stacked towels became so I put them next to each other. I fold in thirds first (leaving me with a long and skinny towel), then in half twice.

I just figured this out a few months ago when I was experimenting to find better way.

Ideally I roll them. If I told them I fold it whichever way gets me no edges showing. Mostly the problem is solved by everyone having one towel. They are all responsible for it including washing and that means I don't have to fold any. It's a good system.

It doesn't matter to me too much, especially if someone else if folding them. If I have the time, I like to fold them into thirds. But we don't have a lot of extra towels, so they often go from the dryer to the towel rack/hook.

Lengthwise in half? I cannot think of a more difficult, awkward way

Of course, my way to "fold" towels is to hang half the big ones off the pack & play (it's right next to the master bath ), give the rest of the big ones to my 8 y/o to fold, give the small one to the 6 y/o (he has this weird triangle way of folding), and hope for the best!

Now I have a place that's plenty tall but they need to take up less space, so I trifold them so that they have a smaller footprint but are taller when folded. I'm not sure if any of that makes sense, but that's just my experience.
thats how I fold them too - according to space. I currently fold in half twice then roll them so that all my towels fit in the storage cart.

The "right" way I was taught as a child is to hold the towel with the length as its width -- so, towel is stretched flat across body, arms outstretched with end in each hand. Then, fold in half, in half again, and then in thirds. Martha Stewart says to fold it in thirds length-wise and then in half and in half again. I probably do a mix of both

Also, I fold socks and underwear and even rags.

My mom folds underwear. Into fourths! Drives me batty when she's here and folds my laundry. I do fold DH's boxer briefs in half so they fit. I don't fold any other underwear, I just lay it flat. I match up socks and do the half-inside out thing so they stay matched.

I fold cleaning rags so they fit in the drawer and it's easier to find the one I want--bigger, smaller, cotton, microfiber, etc.

We've lived in houses with almost no closet space and tons of closet space. With almost no closet space there's a lot of folding. We're now in our forever house and we have tons of closet space. So I hang everything I possible can and fold the rest.

I fold rags too. They fit better in the drawer.

I just bought several packs of matching socks for my children to share. No more cute socks. I'm tired of matching them. I'm so happy. My life is so much easier already.

I just throw my underwear in the drawer. It's ugly anyway. I have a big bum, and I cannot lie. They aren't beautiful.

How do you do it?
I do it the same. Then fit our cabinet this way. DH folds them in half length wise the in half again then in thirds.. seems like too many steps but he does laundry so I let it go...
