healthy-ish birthday cake/dessert without baking?
We'll be celebrating ds' second birthday at my in-law's house. I don't want to get a traditional bakery or ice cream cake because of all the sugar. Trying to come up with an alternative that won't be too out there for my relatives. It would be best if we could avoid baking, but it could be done. My MIL does have an oven but it isn't used much and is gas and hard to regulate. We won't have access to any really out there ingredients, but I could possibly take things with us. Any ideas?

Have you seen a watermelon cake? You basically slice a big watermelon into big circles and stack them like a cake, decorate with whipped cream (or coconut cream for DF) and other fruits.

Re: healthy-ish birthday cake/dessert without baking?
If you did a breakfast party you could probably get away with candles in pancakes, French Toast, or Waffles without it seeming weird, especially if you made the stack pretty with strawberries and whipped cream or something.
You could also buy muffins from a bakery (I think those are about as sweet as a cake I would make, but less than a bought cake). You could frost them with cream cheese or cream cheese icing. You can make a "cake" out of ice cream sandwiches, which isn't a ton better but I find for me and my kids that we tolerate ice cream better than cake when it comes to sugar. Frost with whipped cream.

I have never seen a watermelon cake! I'll have to google that!
I'm not sure we can find store bought muffins there. Well, we can, but there are a little weird. Don't think there are ice cream sandwiches. Gotta run, baby up.
