gluten free convience list some favorites
So I firmly believe the best way to do gluten free is to eat clean healthy fats low carb and grains low sugr and lots of fresh produce. however sometimes I need fat quick sometimes we need some comfort foods to keep our journey going.
So give me some of your favorite I can pop it open nuke it or toss it in the oven type gluten fee and as a bonus kid friendly choices.. Some areas we'd love to find 1) fish sticks this Catholic family Friday night staple.. Just doing plain fish isn't the same with my kids. "frying" is more work. I loved just being able to pop open a package and call it good. Do I have a gluten free alternative? 2) Mac N cheese again we all know homemade is best but that blue box had a special place in the recesses of my food cabinet a beacon of light on stressful days.. A good gluten free substitute? (Ive seen several but have no idea which to choose 3) ready to serve soups. When DH had like 30 minutes between getting home and having to leave for rehersals I always know I could at least open a "meal" type can of soup pour over some instant rice and he wasn't going to starve. Same if I was under the weather. The gluten free soups so far have been kind of light he wants something more "meaty" 4) cookie yea well sometimes a cookie solves what is ailing us.. If I'm going for store bought what do you like 5) chicken nuggets and frozen pizza what can I say Kids...

Re: gluten free convience list some favorites
I believe Dr Praegers (sp?) has a GF fish stick. I think a potato flake coating.
Annies mac and cheese is supposed to be the best GF but they don't have DF so we haven't tried it. Immaculate baking has a slice and bake GF that's pretty good. Well, I've never baked them, but the raw dough is good Applegate frozen chicken nuggets. Lots of GF pizza options if you can do dairy.

Re: gluten free convience list some favorites
No idea about fish sticks.
My daughter prefers Annie's gf Mac n cheese. She'll eat other kinds but she specifically asks for Annie's. Progressive has a bunch of normal gluten free soups. I don't remember the different ones but I can always find something hearty for my daughter when we do soup on camping trips. I don't know what to suggest for frozen pizza. We have a few decent pizza shops to get take out from with good gluten free pizzas so I have given up on frozen. My daughter likes the gf nuggets from aldi the best. I haven't found any other brand that she likes and I can count on being in the store when I want them. |

Re: gluten free convience list some favorites
Udi's has very good GF pizza.
For GF soups, you can heat up a quart of chicken broth and add Asian style rice noodles and a bag of frozen veggies. Cook the vegs while you heat broth. The noodles cook in less than 5 mins. Amy's has very good GF Mac & cheese (frozen) and there is even a DF option. ---------- Post added at 07:30 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:28 PM ---------- Ian's makes GF fish sticks. There's another brand we like as well, but I haven't seen it recently.

Re: gluten free convience list some favorites
Thanks I know I ve seen the Annie Mac N cheese so I'll probably try that. I'm pretty sure Ive seen the Ians fish sticks but not the others I'l keep an eye out. Ive only seen is gluten free cream of stuff progressive soups which he dislikes. Broth with noodles and frozen veggies just isn't any kind of meal too him and frankly in this one cause I'm looking for like one step meal.

Re: gluten free convience list some favorites
We love Lara bars even though we are not GF (but they are). They're all pretty good but given a choice I will get one with chocolate. My favorite is the chocolate chip peanut butter cookie. The brownie and the chocolate chip cookie dough are close seconds. The awesome thing is they ARE real food- mostly dates and nuts.

Re: gluten free convience list some favorites
Could you make a crock pot of gf beef stew and freeze in individual portions for quick meals? I do that with chili. It's not too much work.

Making more like beef stew or chili to freeze ext is fine except it is still adding work. Honestly its also adding a lot of money because I'd have to buy what I normally use twice including meats. I'm not looking at cramming my shelves and fridge with "gluten free" processed canned and convince foods not at all. However it be nice to be able to pick a few things as back up.

Re: gluten free convience list some favorites
soo umm $388 later
Well we have a full pantry freezer and fridge including a "decent" amount of convience stuff. Way more than I'd normally buy but I promised the girls we'd try some stuff out. So I bought in addition to our overall general normal meat produce and dairy items 2 big family boxes of cheerios cause they finially have the gluten free variety, Cecilia was thrilled she LOVES honey Nut cheerios and the multigrain ones a gluten free flour mix and a brand of pasta recommended on gcm gluten free rolled oats. krusteaz brand gluten free pancake mix and corn bread mix I wanted plain corn meal but I couldnt find anything except plain quaker or store brand equivlent.. betty crocker gluten free brownie mix (that was cecilias Fault) gluten free croutons hey cecilia will eat salads as long as she can have her croutons... Annies Mac N cheese Udi (sp?) pizza one cheese one pepperoni Ians fish sticks I forget the brand gluten free bagels our grocery "simply" brand gluten free chicken strips SO yea we have way more than we "need" I warned the girls that this stuff was PRICY and we were going to slowly try things so they last. Plus again gluten free doesn't equal healthy...

Re: gluten free convience list some favorites
I've been keeping a bag of sprouted corn tortillas in the freezer, add a can of pinto or black beans and cheese and you have easy bean burritos. Add toppings if you have them - salsa, sour cream, lettuce and tomato.
