Elderberry syrup recipe
I was going to buy stuff to make elderberry syrup this weekend. I've never made it before. I was going to use this recipe http://wellnessmama.com/1888/elderberry-syrup/
Has anyone used this recipe? I have ceylon cinnamon powder and I have clove powder(from the spice aisle at the grocery store.) Are these okay to use? Would ginger from the spice aisle work as well? Anything else I need,I'm going to get from Mountain Rose Herbs. |

Re: Elderberry syrup recipe
i just always do elderberries (1 cup dried) plus 3 cups water, no other spices. bring to boil, then simmer for a good bit with a lid on it, then strain cool to warmish and then add 1 cup honey. i also do a second batch with the same elderberries (it won't get thick, it will just be more watery ) and then i just add a bit of honey to it and put either just drink it or add it to teas and such.

Re: Elderberry syrup recipe
That's the recipe we use (from the Wellness Mama link). Everyone will take it, even the picky ones.
---------- Post added at 05:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:19 PM ---------- Do you have access to fresh ginger root? I always use that, because after it simmers the stated amount of time, I just remove the whole thing. I use whole cloves for the same reason. So easy to fish out afterwards! |

Re: Elderberry syrup recipe
I bought some from a friend who I think uses that recipe. I just wanted to say, it is delicious mixed with plain yogurt and granola Plain too, but sometimes it's nice to change things up.
