The long cycle is because it uses so little water. About 3 gallons, which is amazing considering I can get a full day's dishes for 7 people in there.

My Bosch does have a 1 hour cycle option that uses a lot more water and heat.

I run mine when I go to bed so the long cycle isn't an issue. If I'm in a pinch during the day I use the 1 hour cycle.

Ok, i take it back then. I dont care about noise in that I do not need a SILENT one. I don't want a super noisy one either like that either. But I know we paid close to the bottom so I assume most or many new ones aren't super noisy? Like I didn't pay extra for low noise.

The low water is an EPA rule.

Quiet ones use 1 gallon but fill multiple times.

Pretty quiet ones use 2 gallons and fill multiple times.

Older ones use 20+ total.

Yep, an older dishwasher can use 20-30 gallons of water. Insane by today's standards.

Compared to an old one, hand washing saves lots of water! (when done with a full sink, not letting the water run)

I prefer the ones that use 20 gallons. Bag. I never rinsed dishes and they came out clean.

Because when it comes to saving water , clothing and dishes are not the way to go! Just turn off the water when you brush your teeth people! (my husband runs the water while he brushes his teeth. Drives me up the wall!)

I think I'm going to pick the extra top rack/tray over the power jets. I've always hand washed some dishes every day (pots/pans, messy things like a lasagna pan or something)

My sister's dishwasher has that tiny top tray. She puts the silverware and things like that up there. It's nice because it takes no extra space in the machine yet you can still get lots up there. And it keeps all the little pieces separate so that they get washed well.

The downside is that I wouldn't want that to be the *only* spot to put silverware. I like the silverware tray becasue I like to pull the whole thing out and unload it beside the silverware drawer. The model you linked to has both -- which is something that I would definitely want for myself.

I don't rinse dishes and my dishes come out clean. I use Cascade Platinum. Even peanut butter and egg yolk come off without rinsing.

Growing up we had to rinse the dishes perfectly or they wouldn't get clean. Old dishwasher detergent didn't have enzymes.

Trying to figure out this HE wash or "Smartwash". Hoping to get one that I can choose to not use that setting. Going to look at Sears tomorrow.

We have a super quiet Bosch and I love the third drawer at the top which is for laying out the silverware
I do not love that it will stop mid cycle if it needs more Jet Dry.

We got a new pump and a new control panel for the dishwasher. Didn't have to pre-rinse! Yea!

Woohoo!

The rinse aid dispenser stopped working on mine a few weeks ago. I fiddled with it as much as I could and nothing. I googled and it's likely the timer. Our amazing independent repair technician retried and the repair companies all charge $200 just to walk through the door.

When my rinse aid dispenser worked, I was able to use "natural" dishwasher detergent and distilled vinegar as rinse aid.

Now I have to use Cascade Premium. But, better than replacing a dishwasher that's only a few years old.

Some day we'll get a water softener, maybe. Then I can possibly go back to natural detergent. Oh well. Throwing away a working dishwasher is bad for the environment, too. I just wish they'd make a fragrance free version of Cascade.

I ordered one from Sears last night.

DH took the old one to the dump today. I wasn't in the house when they pulled it out, forgetting about draining water in the hose. OOOhhhhh, was it stinky! Been sitting there empty for at least a month.

So my whole floor got cleaned after that yuckiness.
