This is me. When I am nursing I need to eat. I usually have a snack at 8:30 after the kids are down and I go to bed between 9:30 and 10:30 if it's later than 10 when I am getting ready for bed, I'll eat another snack. Otherwise I wake up at 4a.m. and I'm *hungry* and can't get back to sleep and I lay there for a long time waiting for the baby to stop eating so I can sneak out of bed for food.

I can't sleep if I'm hungry. And I wake up sick if I haven't eaten something before bed. I can't go 11+ hours without food (3 before bed, 8 in bed).

If I had a salad for dinner,I have to have a snack or I can't sleep for hunger. If I eat a heavy bowl of soup and bread,I might not eat till 9am the next morning
So for me,it all depends on dinner.

We snack before bed and I'm not sure if I could make it till morning if I didn't AND honestly, my kids wake up and raid the kitchen at night if they don't snack. We tried to eliminate bedtime snacks once after reading studies. BUT then I realized as Lisa said, everything can be justified by some sort of study I read potatoes not prozac so used to do potatoes before bed every night Winter is hard for me depression wise so I may have to consider this again. Recently we have gone to fruit/veggies bedtime snack. Tonight we have a guest so our treat was popcorn

I eat dinner around 6 and it's usually the last thing I eat for the day. I go to bed around 10. If I haven't eaten enough during the day this doesn't work though and I have to snack, but when I snack, I don't sleep as well. But I also don't sleep if I'm hungry so I just try to eat 3 good meals.

Just for reference, the food choices I make for myself, as a fully grown woman with very different dietary and intake needs, vary dramatically from the food choices I make for my children (or encourage my children to make for themselves).

While I have found that it is key for me to *not* eat anything other than drink water after dinner and before bedtime, I do offer and encourage my children to eat a healthy snack before bed.

So I guess my answer would vary based on whether you were asking what *I* do, or what we do as a family.
