No-Cry Discipline

I was reading this Friday night and I have really enjoyed it. I don't love every suggestion she made, but it's been a refreshing read. I have heaped so much pressure on myself to not be permissive that I had fallen into the trap of correcting every.single.thing. And my poor kids and I were just DONE. So many reminders that I can't be 100% perfect and its ok. Ive become too serious, my expectations too high and the joy in my children just sucked out of me. I actually foundyself saying to my 4yo (but caught myself) "why can't you just always obey the rules all the time and not need my help?". No wonder I was near nervous breakdown. That is how I was feeling about MYSELF and was projecting it onto my kids.

I guess I realized that I have applied the punitive higher expectations onto myself. Rather than letting them roll off my back, I was absorbing them and wanting to show gentle parenting in a good light by meeting those expectations. Suddenly I feel so free! In just the 1.5 days since I read it my kids have changed drastically for the better. We're all happier and ironically now that I've adopted her 70/30 good parenting ratio I am doing better than when I struved for 100%.

Wow- such a rave review! Is that the Elizabeth Pantley book? My library has that one.
