sick after dental cleaning?
This happened to me -and my 10 year old. Me- last year I got sick with flu like symptoms for about 3 days after -felt like got hit by a "mack truck".
Yesterday 10 yo son had the first cleaning he's had in about a year and a half (UNFORTUNATELY!) and last night he threw up 3 or 4 times according to dh. I wonder what I can do to help him . My holistic dentist office says that regular dentists often have this reaction. His office instead uses laser something I can't think what it is, and it minimizes these reactions, but he is not a children's dentist so I took him to a regular pediatric dentist. anyone else's kid have this reaction? edited to say The holistic dentist uses "ozone" .

Re: sick after dental cleaning?
i'm confused did you go to a holistic dentist and then had a reaction? or did you go to a regular one?
anyways, here are some common reasons for the reactions: 1. picking up a virus in the waiting room, from staff, etc. sadly this is the issue with going to appointments 2. reaction to products used by the dentist: aspartame, preservatives, dyes, fluoride, BPA are just some of the common ingredients in products that may be used. 3. if you have metal fixtures, anything from fillings to bridges/crowns, to retainers, a cleaning will release an amount of metal. this may cause a stress and an immune-mediated reaction. flu-like symptoms are common

Re: sick after dental cleaning?
Speaking of *my* reaction- I went to a regular dentist last year. I think 2. and 3. in your answers above would probably hit the nail on the head, for me.
Son went to a regular dentist and all he had done was cleaning with the scraper instrument--he couldn't stand the polishing with toothpaste . And he hadn't been to the dentist in quite a while, so I think the bacteria that she scraped off his teeth might have gotten into his tummy--that's what dh thinks.

Re: sick after dental cleaning?
Our gums can harbor pretty large bacterial colonies. If they are disturbed via cleaning, particularly flossing or ultrasonic gum cleaning, then all those toxins are released.
A way to help this would be to take activated charcoal and calcium bentonite before and after a cleaning. Stay hydrated. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk |

Also...did you get the liquid flouride? Did you swallow even the tiniest bit of it? Because that will cause queasiness!

Re: sick after dental cleaning?
My oldest got really sick with strep after a root canal. I called the dentist and they said it wasn't related. They said it couldn't happen. Our doctor said yes...it happens a lot. Our doc said the dentist should have automatically given antibiotics.
Interestingly my dad had work done and his dentist put him on antibiotics immediately. Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk

Re: sick after dental cleaning?
The fluoride always made me sick when I was younger.
