Can I Get My Dog to Stop Peeing Inside?
Any ideas?
He's almost 13, which is at the top of his life expectancy. There's a good chance he is just senile. But he recognizes everyone in the family, etc. so I'm not sure it's that. In the last week, he's had like 12+ pee accidents. The 10 days prior to that, he had one accident while he stayed with someone else. He got more attention there and more walks (actual walks are challenging now because of the snow & salt getting caught in his paws, and we're having a cold spell). It feels like he's doing it to be mean I take him out every hour to hour & a half, but I can't go out with him because I'm usually holding the baby, so I can't actually see if he's peeing or pooping. He has an accident over night almost every day, even if it's only 8 hours between going out. Can you crate-train a dog this late? It's super-challenging to deal with this many pee accidents. Usually we find out when either I, DH or the kids walk through it

Re: Can I Get My Dog to Stop Peeing Inside?
poor thing! My uncles dog (who's a 15 year old Golden Retriever!) has accidents when he has a UTI. My uncle was told that the dogs prostate gland is enlarged and makes him very prone to UTI's.
Does your dog have any back leg weakness? Maybe he has a neurologic reason for his incontinence. I tend to think that if your dog was previously housetrained and hasn't experienced any big stress or trauma, that he likely has a physical reason for his accidents.

He has back leg weakness, but he has to go up & down stairs to go outside. It's also common for his breed to have hip problems. We give him cranberry pills and that sometimes helps. It doesn't seem to be helping right now.

He might have a kidney issue. Can you confine him to an area of your house and get Piddle Pads? It might help. Those pads are treated with *attactants*

My first thought is that he might be dealing with a bladder infection. I would take him to the vet and have it checked.
