swollen and infected side of finger

near the base of the nailbed . . . .not sure how I got it. Noticed it while driving home from camping . . . thinking of lancing it. Thoughts???? WWYD?

Maybe an epsom soak first. But I'm a chicken when it comes to lancing.

I tried lancing it and nothing but a small bit of blood came out

It's sore and hard and I'm putting heat on it now.

I'd do a soak, some tea tree oil and then a clay pack.

I had something once that resembled that. I put TTO (diluted in a carrier oil) on my finger & wrapped in a band-aid. It throbbed like crazy but all it took was 2 nights of that to kill the infection. The nail grew out funky where it was infected, but the regrow was fine.

do you have any lemon balm? If you have fresh, you could crush the leaves and wrap your finger up in it overnight- it's a potent antimicrobial/antifungal general antiseptic.

I actually get this very old fashioned drawing salve for things like that. It's got camphor and oil of clove in it

But it works on deep inflammation or infections even when the skin isn't open.

Maximus' finger did that but of course he didn't notice the pain until there was a sizeable lanceable area.

I soaked it with a hot rag for some time and now I've got pure Frankincense EO on it with a bandaid . . . I'll check it in the morning and might switch to TTO or Lemon EO

I might assault it with a slew of oils

Lemon eo isn't the same as lemon balm.

TTO has many of the same properties as lemon balm.

My non-crunchy answer here

I have had that happen several times, and putting triple antibiotic cream on a bandaid wrapped around the infected area has always cleared it up. I usually change the bandaids a few times before the infection is gone, but it doesn't take too long to clear up.

We have used manuka honey on all kinds of infections, including MRSA, and it works quickly. We usually follow with bentonite clay to draw out the yuckiness. Not sure if you have those on hand...

It's really weird - hard and sore.

My Mom had that happen recently. When she noticed red streaks heading up her arm, she went in to have it taken care of. She had tried lancing it and soaking it at home and nothing worked. :/

Hope it's better this morning. I'd do a soak as well.

P had an infected nailbed a while back. He showed it to me and it was totally full of puss. I lanced it and it felt much better once it drained. I treated it with epsom salt soaks and tto, but it didn't fully heal until I gave up the natural stuff and treated it with triple antibiotic. His nail is dead, but regrowing and it never actually fell off.

In hindsight, I'd have treated it with triple abx from the beginning b/c it lasted 2 weeks and I think lancing it and using triple abx would have taken care of it much quicker.
