Where Did it Go?!

by Mama Tater

Am I losing my mind?! No! No! No! I'm not sure what it is, because I was pretty good at knowing where things were in my organized clutter prior to being a mom. I think the second I gave birth, some physiological mystery occurred. It seems something is always missing around my house.

There is "The Other E-wee" from Tater's animal farm puzzle. (I like to pronounce ewe phonetically because "Hooked on Phonics™ worked for me"!) I can't even begin to imagine where that sheep is! I've torn the living room apart looking for it. I guess the master and the dame won't be getting any wool and the little boy will still be crying in the lane.

Then there is the irreplaceable straw. Call me crazy, but I have some strange attachment to a blue plastic straw and matching cup set that we got for free from BD's Mongolian Barbeque. I freak out looking for the thing when it's missing, which is terrible since it is disposable. In contrast, ask me how much searching I did for my engagement ring when it went MIA. (Don't tell my husband, but I kinda forgot it was lost. . . until I stepped on it!)

Sometimes things aren't truly missing; they've just found a temporary home! Apparently my son seems to think apple chunks and Cheerios™ belong underneath the bed (for midnight snacks without leaving the bed, I guess) or that toys belong in the VCR. At times I think he is just trying to be helpful, like the day I found a can of mushrooms in the stockpot. That boy is an efficiency expert!

So you see, having a child is all about losing things. But bring in the trite police and have them come equipped with fries because I'm about to get cheesy! Losing all the stuff in the world is worth it because I have a sweet little man that is glad to misplace everything for me!

Mama Tater is mama to 22 month old Isaac. She and her husband Dan have been married for 3.5 years. They live in Ohio. Her hobbies are cooking/baking, learning, breastfeeding, and reading.
