Special-Needs Scripture

Compiled by Cyndi Egbert

Psalms 127:3 "Behold, children [are] a heritage from the LORD, The fruit of the womb [is] a reward."

The Comforter

Psalms 34:18 The LORD [is] near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit.

Psalms 51:17 The sacrifices of God [are] a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart -- These, O God, You will not despise.

Psalms 147:3 He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds.

Isaiah 61:1  "The Spirit of the Lord GOD [is] upon Me, Because the LORD has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to [those who are] bound;

Ezekiel 34:16  "I will seek what was lost and bring back what was driven away, bind up the broken and strengthen what was sick; but I will destroy the fat and the strong, and feed them in judgment."

Luke 4:18 "The Spirit of the LORD [is] upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to [the] poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to [the] captives And recovery of sight to [the] blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed;

The Sustainer

Job 29:15 I [was] eyes to the blind, And I [was] feet to the lame.

Psalms 6:2 Have mercy on me, O LORD, for I [am] weak; O LORD, heal me, for my bones are troubled.

Psalms 41:3 The LORD will strengthen him on his bed of illness; You will sustain him on his sickbed.

Proverbs 18:14 The spirit of a man will sustain him in sickness, But who can bear a broken spirit?

Isaiah 40:29 He gives power to the weak, And to [those who have] no might He increases strength.

Joel 3:10  Beat your plowshares into swords And your pruning hooks into spears; Let the weak say, 'I [am] strong.'"

Acts 20:35 "I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'"

A Special Place for the Weak

1 Cor 1:27  But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty;

1 Corinthians 12:22, 23  "Those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor"

1 Cor 15:43 It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power.

2 Cor 12:9, 10 And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.  Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

2 Cor 13:4 For though He was crucified in weakness, yet He lives by the power of God. For we also are weak in Him, but we shall live with Him by the power of God toward you.

The Healer

Matthew 4:23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people.

Matthew 4:24  Then His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them.

Matthew 8:17  that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: "He Himself took our infirmities And bore [our] sicknesses."

Matthew 14:14  And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick.

Mark 6:13  And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick, and healed [them.]

Mark 6:56  Wherever He entered into villages, cities, or in the country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and begged Him that they might just touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched Him were made well.

Luke 7:22  Jesus answered and said to them, "Go and tell John the things you have seen and heard: that [the] blind see, [the] lame walk, [the] lepers are cleansed, [the] deaf hear, [the] dead are raised, [the] poor have the gospel preached to them.

Luke 10:9  "And heal the sick there, and say to them, 'The kingdom of God has come near to you.'

Philipp 2:27  For indeed he was sick almost unto death; but God had mercy on him, and not only on him but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.

James 5:14  Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.

Compassion

Leviticus 19:14  'You shall not curse the deaf, nor put a stumbling block before the blind, but shall fear your God: I [am] the LORD.

Deuteronomy 27:18  'Cursed [is] the one who makes the blind to wander off the road.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen!'

Isaiah 42:16  I will bring the blind by a way they did not know; I will lead them in paths they have not known. I will make darkness light before them, And crooked places straight. These things I will do for them, And not forsake them.

Matthew 25: 34  "Then the King will say to those on His right hand, 'Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:   35 'for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in;   36 'I [was] naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.'   37 "Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed [You,] or thirsty and give [You] drink?   38 'When did we see You a stranger and take [You] in, or naked and clothe [You?]   39 'Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?'   40 "And the King will answer and say to them, 'Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did [it] to one of the least of these My brethren, you did [it] to Me.'

Luke 14:13 "But when you give a feast, invite [the] poor, [the] maimed, [the] lame, [the] blind.

Praise-Worthy

Exodus 4:10  Then Moses said to the LORD, "O my Lord, I [am] not eloquent, neither before nor since You have spoken to Your servant; but I [am] slow of speech and slow of tongue."   11 So the LORD said to him, "Who has made man's mouth? Or who makes the mute, the deaf, the seeing, or the blind? [Have] not I, the LORD?   12 "Now therefore, go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall say."

Psalms 78:4  We will not hide [them] from their children, Telling to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, And His strength and His wonderful works that He has done.

Matthew 15:31  So the multitude marveled when they saw [the] mute speaking, [the] maimed made whole, [the] lame walking, and [the] blind seeing; and they glorified the God of Israel.

John 9:1 Now as [Jesus] passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth.   2 And His disciples asked Him, saying, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"   3 Jesus answered, "Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him.   4 "I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; [the] night is coming when no one can work.   5 "As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world."

Be Joyful

Psalms 127:3 Behold, children [are] a heritage from the LORD, The fruit of the womb [is] a reward.

Proverbs 15:13 A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance, But by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.

Proverbs 17:22 A merry heart does good, [like] medicine, But a broken spirit dries the bones.
