There is a new piece out on how unreliable OTC vit D labels are. They can vary dramatically from the listed dose. We got the best results from the D2 script.

Re: Vitamin D FAQ :)
I saw it on the news. All I can find online is this:
http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/n...eling/1909603/ It says it was a JAMA Internal Medicine article. But I can't find it on their website. In the news piece they identified companies who had certain inspections done were found to have the amounts listed most of the time. :-/ |

Re: Vitamin D FAQ :)
some of this is just supplement 101: the amount of active ingredient *always* varies, that is normal. there are acceptable degrees of variability :) however, it is of concern, when we find only half the amount, or worse, twice the expected amount!
a few problems with their article: who are the manufacturers? i understand they don't want to tell. but you know, Dollar Tree makes vitmin D now. and so does walgreens. and so does vitacost. and so does carlon's. this is a great reminder to know your manufacturer :yes and finally, I highly recommend skipping pills altogether and getting oil-based vit D3. |
