I've gotta share that my FAVORITE recipe books are the ones that are sold as fundraisers by local groups, churches, etc. They tend to be easy and crowd pleasers, since the folks that share them have made the recipes many times and are regular folks.
The recipes I've gotten the greatest compliments on (pecan pie, cream cheese cookies, parmesan chicken, to name a few...) all came from fundraiser cookbooks! ![]() |

FIRST POST (outside of the intro...)!
Anyways, my favorite recipe book ever is Nourishing Traditions http://www.amazon.com/Nourishing-Tra...4010808&sr=8-1 Not even so much for the recipes, but for the vast amount of info on food, the body, and how it is all so interconnected. I ![]() Jamie |

One of my most-used cookbooks is probably Country Cooking, published by Southern Living magazine. Lots of basic down-home recipes, with a lot of kitchen tips and information. Also very picture-heavy, which I like.
I also really like the annual compilation cookbooks that Southern Living puts out using the recipies from their magazine for the year, as well as their cooking contest winners. I just check them out of the library, and some of my favorite recipes have come from these. I always thought that magazine recipes were intimidating, and some are, but there are also a lot of simple recipes with basic ingredients. |

I have recently bought
The Sneaky Chef http://www.amazon.com/Sneaky-Chef-St...4015005&sr=1-1 and Deceptively Delicious http://www.amazon.com/Deceptively-De...929674-2366333 and have been impressed with both. They are kid-friendly recipes that sneak veggies into the foods. My kids haven't been able to tell the difference and are enjoying their mac and cheese while getting in a full serving of zucchini and cauliflower ![]() I also really like Hot to Cook Without a Book http://www.amazon.com/How-Cook-Witho...4015191&sr=1-1 |

The main difference is that she has more ways of disguising veggies/fruits other than just pureeing, so that opens up a variety of new recipes. I really like the recipes in Sneaky Chef, but I *love* the layout of Deceptively Delicious. We were just eating pumpkin doughnuts this morning...

I am keeping 660 Curries by Raghavan Iyer checked out nonstop! You name it, there's a recipe that calls for it in this wonderful book. And you don't have to have an elaborate kitchen or access to an ethnic market or high-end grocery to cook most of them, either. A lot of them are easy on the budget--there's one for turnips and kidney beans, many that use homemade fresh cheese as the main protein--WIC mamas elbow-deep in milk, take note! Also lots of different veggie side dishes for those weeks when your budget will only allow for one vegetable, day after day, because it's the one on sale. I'm slowly copying out the recipes that fit our budget and we'll see how many make it into rotation.
