Exact same pattern and reasons here in our household now that my kids are older.

When they were younger it was always a simple task to put on one of their chore lists.

My 12 year old loads and unloads the dishwasher. He generally runs it once a day sometimes twice. He needs no help from me with it anymore. And I have to admit I love not having to do the dishes

My boys split it. DS2 does the glass and silverware. Ds1 does the rest.

We usually run it several times a day.

They are both main daily chores that our kids (rotating) do. They start unloading around 5 years old and loading at 7. Currently the 11 yr old loads and the 9 year old unloads. (if anyone is curious - 14 year old sweeps and 16 does a daily laundry load)

We tend to run it after every other meal, so it's not an exact time each day.

We run ours at night. We've gone back and forth about what part the kids play, right now they're supposed to unload in the morning (people add their dishes through the day) and then help load it and start it at night. But they don't get up before me, and then the sink gets full of dishes before they unload. I think I'll follow the lead of others here and have the dishes person be in charge of handwashing or helping with meal cleanup. Right now they rotate weekly chores, but it needs a re-think.

Our whole situation is out of control. We run 1-3 loads a day- as needed, and at random times. 10 and 13 unload a lot. 10 complains like crazy, so I make her do it even more. 8 can unload, but she is wild and scares me. I wish I could be the only one to ever use anything in the kitchen.

I run it every evening and my 12 yo unloads it every morning without help or needing a reminder. He is not typical. My other kids need lots of reminders for everything, it seems.
