Arthritis

Back in June my thumb started hurting whenever I put pressure on the tip (like when holding a pencil) and it gradually has been getting worse. I finally got into a Dr today and after an x-ray they diagnosed me with arthritis. They suggested aspercream and taping it. Any other helpful ideas.

I would look at multi-pronged approach to reducing inflammation/relieving symptoms. It will likely flare intermittently over time - my mom has it and has periods where it is very painful, and others where she doesn't need the brace at all.

I would invest in a hand brace, and b/c your youngest is still relatively young be especially careful about using that joint in holding them/weight bearing.

Did they say if it was osteoarthritis?

She didn't give me any other info. Only the tip of my thumb is affected (the lower joints look normal) so I'm not seeing a brace that would work. That might be why she recommended taping instead. Now that I think about it my brother in law swears by turmeric for his bad knees. Here's hoping it help my thumb!

Turmeric is easy to incorporate in your diet. (I buy it in bulk powder and make a ginger-lemon-turmeric drink most afternoons.) If you go with capsules, try Qunol.

Sugar is a trigger for me, too.

The one thing I'd add is that the best medicine for arthritis is exercise. Don't do things that deliberately stress the joint, but keep it moving or eventually, you won't be able to move it. I have a couple of joints in fingers on my bow hand that get inflamed occasionally. When I'm not playing (and my diet is crummy!), I feel it a lot more. Flexing those fingers is important. There are some T-Tapp Finger and Foot fitness exercises that are fantastic for keeping those joints flexible and even strengthening them.

Unfortunately my diet is lousy right now. It's one of the side effects of living in other people's houses. There's so much junk food not to mention all the traditional Italian-American foods my MIL makes. I'm past my third trimester weight right now without being pregnant.

So I guess I need to work on the will power and cut back on dairy and sugar. my body has never liked those. And fried junk food. It's so hard when it's all right here.

I only read these two responses and had to copy them cuz I use a combination of both now — tried separately and got decent results but the combination supplement I now use is phenomenal . A gcm w arthritis uses this product (hemp and turmeric) for arthritis and recommended it for my back issues (injuries). It’s been life changing. I ran out and within a day or two was near tears
