As I understand it, it's early morning light that helps with proper melatonin production.
I'm not a morning person but I'm much rather be woken up by the sun than have light later in the day. And I'd much rather not switch around, my sleep has been terrible this past week. I was doing so well too, getting drowsy and falling asleep easily at a decent hour. I was wide awake at two in the morning this morning.

This is a screenshot from Facebook post the article is behind a paywall. Looking at this map I think we need to consider making the timezones more diagonal that vertical to help some.
