Default Getting a new puppy today!

It has been a year since our good old Brittany spaniel died, and today we're bringing home a 7 week old Brittany puppy. We've been watching some youtube videos to refresh ourselves on obedience training, but I thought it would be fun to hear your best piece of advice for living with a new puppy.

Puppies need sleep to grow.

Treats in crate to create safe space. After 45-60 minutes of play, nap in crate. 45 min nap.

Turn your back, fold arms, and do a deep throated yelp (uuuuugh sound) if she puts teeth on your skin.

Dogs are craziest in morning and dinner time, per our trainer.

Teach your dog to pee on a fake grass pad and on rocks, not just on grass/bushes.

Sniff walks only a quarter mile or less all around your home, not long walks. For a few weeks.

We do raw food if you want tips. You can definitely do just partial raw. Like organ meet from chickens you were going to throw away.

Our holistic vet said 1 rabies vaccine at 6 months. No more. Check titers after 3 years then yearly ish. Can do one parvo/ distemper at 14 weeks but more are unnecessary per our vet. Mom’s antibodies prevent them from doing much prior to that. 50 year vet. 30 years conventional. 20 years holistic.

No dog parks before 6 months because of the mean/bad/out of control dogs there. We’ll never go to one.

Meet 100 friendly people before 18 weeks of age. All types. Young. Old. Wheelchair. Crutches. Asian market. All the places. All the ground surfaces.

Noises. All the noises. Saw. Lawn mower.

Use a step stool to get into car.

20 FRIENDLY dog meets (10 seconds). Before 18 weeks.

Enjoy. Newborns are easier. Lol

Wow, ECingmama, great stuff!

I would love to post pics. I need to figure out how again. I gave up after Photobucket.

This tiny little guy is the cutest thing in the world.
