This morning I woke up with a rat sitting on my feet
Copied from my facebook and I don't know why it won't let me take the bold off.
We had a pet rat, until he escaped months ago and has been living under/behind our dishwasher, counter, fridge. We have nearly caught him many times, but he is always too fast! So, this morning I was half asleep and felt something walking on my feet. I thought "we don't have a cat anymore.... and that's too small an...yway....." then I opened my eyes and in the dim light saw something fuzzy sitting on my feet. I thought "how did a kitten get in our house?..... oh wait! It's the rat!" Of course as soon as I moved, he ran away, but I shut the bedroom door in time. Then I spent the next hour trying to trap him. He kept hiding under the bed, but ...would come out when I was still to try to figure out how to get back out the door. Then Damien woke up and we discovered that the rat had run into the closet, behind the water heater. Damien was able to get him out and finally out of the house! Yay! Now we can finally clean behind our dishwasher (again!) and not have to worry about him pulling any more food from the trash can back there.

Eek! At least he was a former pet, right? That makes it a little bit better.

My first thought would *not* have been "Oh, quick, let' catch it." It would have been, I need to change myself.

Re: This morning I woke up with a rat sitting on my feet
See, stuff like this keeps me from getting a rat. I know, everyone says they're great, but the idea of it escaping and going rogue in my house is enough to make me go
Awk. So has he lost his pet status forevermore?

Yeah. This is why even though people keep suggesting a rat for us for first pet, I could never ever do it.

Re: This morning I woke up with a rat sitting on my feet
When my rats escaped they were pretty easy to catch. Which was a good thing b/c I kept them at school and after their escape I was not allowed to keep them there any more.

This one had been lost for months, was the more wild one in the first place, we were concerned about getting bit now, so he is gone.

Re: This morning I woke up with a rat sitting on my feet
If they are raised from baby age. I dunno. A girl I know used to take hers outside in the grass and he'd always come back to her lap. He was kinda afraid of outside. I just depends on when you get them, where you get them, and the amount of human interaction they get. But I suppose there can always be a wild one in the bunch.
