Gluten Intolerant pondering
Before we discovered that my son was gluten intolerant he used to throw up at birthday parties, because of the birthday cake. It was one of the first clues. So I do see that people can react differently to different foods. But I'm dealing with this again and it makes me wonder about it. My S.O. reacts badly to pizza and ziti (like his two favorite things. He's Italian). Most of his family is gluten intolerant so this isn't a big surprise, but I don't understand why he can eat a peanut butter sandwhich every day with little to no consequence.

Re: Gluten Intolerant pondering
Many think that if they don't eat gluten for a short time, that it should be all better, but sadly it takes some people a longer time to get gluten out of the system.
If you are just starting, you could be getting some gluten still by cross contamination from wooden utensils, cutting boards, toasters, or making food on something that had previously cooked gluten on. Also, gluten is literally in almost everything, so it could be a cc issue with something down on the list. (I can't eat Penzi's spices at all without bad reactions, but I don't have a problem with Simply Organic's spices or McCormicks..... So, I figured it out and avoid some products due to how they manufacture those items.) With gluten avoiding, the body can also see soy, corn and dairy as pretty much the same as the gluten in the gut. It is not uncommon to have more than one issue. As to the OP, is it possible that the common ingredient in the two dishes mentioned could be causing an issue. (My husband developed an issue with salicylates......and tomatoes and onions cause major issues for him now.) I would recommend a food journal to see any patterns. |

Re: Gluten Intolerant pondering
I switched to organic, clearance bread when I didn't notice a difference off gluten.
I ate way too much rice and rice products off gluten though, so maybe if I'd just eaten veggies instead I would have noticed. I'd assume he's sensitive to tomatoes.....and maybe gluten.

Re: Gluten Intolerant pondering
I’ve read that a lot of people who are gluten intolerant are also sensitive to dairy. My dd is. Maybe that would explain the pizza and ziti. I agree that a food journal could be a help.

Re: Gluten Intolerant pondering
I throw up a lot. I also was accidentally getting gluten. I wasn’t always puking after eating gluten. Turns out I ended up w reflux and gastritis possibly from eating gluten. I kept a good dirt and realized I was throwing up a few hours after breakfast every morning no matter what I ate.
Then Realized my breakfast had gluten in it. Then found out via scope(EGD) I had developed reflux and gastritis. The assumption is due to gluten intake and end result I had to change my diet entirely to a gastritis diet and go on meds to control the situation. I’m a lot better now on meds and a low acidic diet but today it indulged In some off the vine tomatoes. Went too far and got sick . I’m not keeping the food diary anymore but it was so so so helpful and I can now see my patterns without the diary. If I have a flare up I will absolutely do another food diary first
