Just wondering if I am the only one that actually uses a pressure cooker. I actually own 3 of them and use them quite a bit.

i just figured out that you can pressure frozen chicken breasts (i forget how long...but under 10 minutes), shred, add BBQ sauce. That's a quick easy dinner...especially when I forget to lay something out...

i think the biggest thing is just getting in the habit and i get lots of recipes online. we eat a lot of Indian food because we live in India. for part of dinner tonight though i have pressure cooker baked beans ready to go. here's my basic outline of a recipe
2-3 cups dried kidney or pinto or other beans, soaked at least 8 hrs 7T natural sweetener (you can use brown sugar, molasses, maple syrup, etc.) 1-2T salt 4 T ketchup 1 T mustard 1 pureed onion 1 T pureed/minced garlic Put everything in the cooker, cover with about 2" of water, and let it cook on med/high for about 45 mins and then let the pressure drop on its own. This is a quick one i also make a lot, it's called Khichadi and you can make it so many different flavors, 1 pureed onion 1t pureed ginger 1T pureed garlic Seasonings: salt, turmeric, coriander powder, chili powder 1-3 cups chopped veggies of your choice, can add tofu too 1 c rice 1/2 c yellow or red lentils (the quick cooking kind) Saute the first three ingredients, add desired seasonings, and then add the other stuff. Stir it all together and add about 3c water. Cook till the first whistle (about 10 mins, I think...or however your cooker takes to do rice) and turn off. Let the heat come down naturally and serve with plain yogurt. Lmk if you want any specific recipes or help with certain foods. i ![]() |

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
Those sound wonderful. I have a bunch of dried beans (that I got through a co-op, but I only ever use the pinto beans...for refried beans). I have black beans, yellow & green split peas, navy beans, 10 bean soup mix, lentils...and some others that I can't recall right now. Any other good bean dishes????? |

Thanks puah! I loved baked beans, so your pressure cooker recipe sounds great! I'm excited to try your Indian recipe, too!
I love my pressure cooker, but I've found that I go in cycles -- sometimes I use it a lot, then I forget about it for a month. ![]()

Wow, this is an old thread! I have a pressure cooker I want to love, but I don't really know how to use it properly. I need recipes that include how to actually use the pot.
