Default looks like we are putting our old dog down

There is no way to word this where I won't think- Oh! Maybe something can make it better.
He is just getting old, and having the issues that come with old dogs- accidents (several a day/night) senility, not holding weight well anymore (he was a FAT dog) and today he nearly took my hand off when I went to feed him.
Dh is DONE. I told him I cannot objectively decide to put an animal down and if he feels strongly about this then he should be the one to decide because he is able to be objective.
And he needs to talk to the kids about it.
So, he did. And he told them that we can get another dog that is smaller than our young dog. That made them better able to accept that Blue will be gone.
I know that if it were anyone else having these issues with a dog and seeking advice, I would suggest euth as an option, it is just so darn hard to accept when it is my dog.
(with previous old animals we had to put down like my 21 yr old cat, we found it was very healing to get a younger cat to fill the void that was left, which is why dh thinks we should get another dog, he likes having two dogs and he worries that Leia, our cattle dog mix, will be lonely without a friend. Which is kind of cute, considering he is not a huge dog person)

I know how it feels to loose a pet. I've lost many in my lifetime. I pray your family heals quickly

Losing a pet is losing a member of your family. I have found that the best therapy is to get a new one right away.

I will be lifting your family up in prayer on Wednesday.

Part of me feels really bad about that...but it is very true, and I already found a new member for our family. She is a 2 month old mutt that will grow to be about 20 lbs and Im getting her tomorrow. I thought it would be easier for the kids (and me) if we have a young pup to focus our energies on instead of the emptiness of Blue being gone.

It feels kind of soon though, but I have learned that when the right dog shows up you don't let them pass you by.

Thanks everyone for the hugs and prayers. It is so hard to even look at him right now.

Make sure you give him lots of love up until it's time.
