Default Fiona woke up with spots this morning...

Looks like measles or roseola, but NO fever whatsoever. All the spots popped up at once, cover her body fairly evenly. I'm pretty sure it's not chicken pox, she's had that before and it definitely does not look like this.

Clinic doesn't open til 10. She's itchy, but otherwise feels fine. She's had a sinus/sore throat thing for the past week, took her to the dr, he said she also was beginning an ear infection.

Any ideas?

Allergic reaction to something?

I would try Benedryl to see if it helps the itching, then maybe do allergy testing.

If it is a lacey non itchy rash I would think 5ths disease - can google it sometimes rash looks like that rather than the bright red cheeks. Is it all over body? raised or flat? Roseola usually has high fever for days.Since cold symptoms have been sounds more Fifths or another virus.Would do things to help her ears tho like garlic and olive oil drops Did they take a swab of her hroat?

I see you said itchy so maybe is more like rubella.

Not lacy, very slightly raised. It's all over her body pretty evenly except her face. Just a few spots on one cheek. Some blotches a bit bigger than others, but no big patches of spots. I don't *think* it's allergy-related, she didn't eat anything new yesterday that I know of. She's been on amoxicillin for a week, I'd think she'd react to that right away.

---------- Post added at 09:21 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:20 AM ----------

I'll have to get some benadryl...this is my one kid who gets the opposite reaction from it and bounces off the walls when taking it, so I usually try other routes, lol. Do you think Claritin would help the itching any?

Sounds like hives. They can be a reaction to a virus. I freaked out a couple weeks ago with something similar. Gave DS Benedryl, and they went away.

My son get viral rashes just like that. Anytime he gets a viral infection he gets an itchy rash all over.

sometimes body may toilerate abx for a few days before reacting so it might be the amoxicillin have you tried the dye free benadryl? Dont know about Claritin isnt that more of a decongestant rather than antihistimine? Vit C can work as natural antihistimine as well as getting the body alkaline rather quickly with something like alka seltzer or a small amount of baking soda in water

---------- Post added at 03:16 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:15 PM ----------

agreeing with others that it could be a viral rash too but either way the alka seltzer or baking soda will help andalso a tub with baking soda added to help with the itchiness

Can you get the dye-free Benadryl? Maybe that would help?

My dd was on amox. for a week before breaking out in a rash. The Dr. said it was an allergic reaction to the amox.

Ime,clairitin, allegra and the like are more for the prevention of symptoms. If I am already reacting, I go for Benedryl. And yes, dye free. Hope she's better!

day 2...

Rude condescending clinic doctor! All the docs over 40 there have horrible manners, the ones under 40 are amazing. Last week we took 3 kids in for sore throats, for a rapid strep test since it's going around. No one had strep, but one had a sinus infection, one a throat infection, one an ear infection (Fi). He was so sweet with her, kept asking if she needed her babydoll checked out too, then was shocked not to hear a heartbeat, lol. Oh, and didn't even blink when I said we didn't vax.

This guy yesterday?
Him: "Oh, you don't vaccinate? Why?"
Me: "Because we don't do that."
Him: "Oh. You'll have to talk to your pediatrician then." :stinkeye

Then proceeded to take less than 2 minutes to check Fi's ears, listen to her heart, and look in her mouth and say "It's a virus. Give Benadryl and Motrin. Check with the pediatrician because of the no vaccination for the next step." and stomp out the door.
Oh, he did ask "No new food?" All just rapid-fire monotone.

Motrin? She's had no fever. What's that for? Oh, can't ask because he left the room! (Honestly, I didn't think of it til later, but I might have thought of it if he'd stayed longer than 2 minutes.)

It's an antihistamine. They add decongestant for the Claritin-D version.

Yeah, actually I haven't been really good about giving it to any of them...once I knew it wasn't strep, I wasn't so keen on the abx...her last dose was probably 2 days ago. I know Jim said he forgot to give it to her the night before this popped up.

no more sore throat? Is she feeling better? Viral rashes typically pop up at the end of the illness when other symptoms are better.

Throat seems to be better, but still sniffly & stuffed up a bit.

Now, how hard would it have been for the dr to share any of that? Didn't say anything about an amox reaction, didn't ping that she'd been in there the week before with sore throat/head cold symptoms.
